1. I had such a nice time with Becca and Eve yesterday. Ayelet copped out on Oprah and changed her story. Then just when it was getting — as Oprah would say — “Real” the show ran out of time. Ayelet finally started talking about her fear that her husband would leave her for a 23-year old literary groupie, which is kind of important in a discussion about her infamous “I love my husband more than my kids” essay.

2. Becca passed on some M. and E. clothes including a Hanna “it’s a play dress, it’s a day dress,” which Madison is wearing right now! Love that!

3. Someone posted on the unschooling list the other day that unschooling works for every child and I thought that was like saying Christianity works for every person. What’s the definition of “works” anyway? I suppose unschooling would work for every child if we all valued the same exact things and had the same beliefs about learning, life, and the pursuit of happiness. I mean, salvation works for every person unless you don’t believe in it or in the need for it. There is no one-size-fits-all to this stuff.

4. We have two ‘fridges in our kitchen right now. Brett bought an energy star model on clearance. Isn’t that all they sell these days? He said that — energy star — like it was a special feature so it must be, I guess. It has the freezer on the bottom, which I’m not sold on but my sister says that’s a feature I will learn to adore. It’s standing here making my kitchen feel even more cramped than usual because we have to let it settle (it was on its side for some time) before it can replace our old ‘fridge. Brett is excited about what he hopes will be a reduction in our electric bill since the old one is from 1988. At least that’s what the sticker on the back says.

5. If you say, “Spin, Madison, spin!” she’ll whirl around like crazy. It’s really funny.

6. Becca also brought over a push-toy/walker thing. It’s like a front of car with a bar on top so you can shove it around. Noah loves it more than Madison; he’s been playing with it all morning. I think Madison would love it, too, but so far Noah hasn’t been able to give it up and let her have a turn.

7. I got my mom’s books over and most of the ones I want are ones that I loaned her and forgot about. Her collection is a wee bit heavy on the Lavyrl Spencer (?) and Danielle Steel for me. My sister picked out the ones she wants, too, while I read her the titles and descriptions over the phone. We got into laughing fits over the book jackets. They are all “rich pageants” full of pageantry. “A sweeping epic rich with the pageantry of the middle ages. She was a 19-year beauty living in a nunnery and he was a knave full of adventure.” Stuff like that. Oh and a lot of great biographies, which Erica put her dibs on and all the Pearl S. Buck, which I nabbed. I love my mother!

8. It’s snowing. It was 80 degrees early last week and now it’s snowing. My poor lilac bush!
