How my brain (doesn’t) work

I mix up Nadine Gordimer and Natalie Goldberg. I didn’t read any Nadine Gordimer for a long time because I don’t like Natalie Goldberg. I couldn’t understand how someone with such a strong literary reputation could write such hokey writing books.

I also mix up Robert Duvall and Robert Deniro (and Robert Palmer and Robert Plant — clearly I have issues with the Roberts).

And today when I was supposed to meet a woman who lives in Small Northern Town at a chain coffee shop near me, I promptly drove to the chain coffee shop in Small Northern Town because that made more sense to me. And so I stood her up. This is after I wrote her apologizing for missing her at 9:30 YESTERDAY when we were meeting today.

Yeah. You guys should totally hire me to do stuff because I really am pretty darn reliable but just don’t try to meet me for coffee or ask me who starred in Taxi Driver.

    Ditto on Natalie Goldberg.

I’ve had a few of those moments of late, flashes of “Did we say we were meeting at Starbucks or Barnes & Noble or Starbucks in Barnes & Noble?” Ever since I turned 40 I no longer trust myself to remember. I’m writing EVERYTHING down.
