Madison came running out of our bedroom yesterday screaming, “Ewwww! There’s another daddy in the frame! Ewww!”
I went back to the bedroom with her to see what she was talking about and she was pointing at our wedding picture. “Ewww! He looks weird!” and she rolled around on the bed. Brett came in and she said, “Daddy! Look! Ewww!” So he threw a sheet to cover the picture frame and she laughed and was relieved.
Other than being lankier, he looks pretty much the same as when we married. (More hair, too, but that’s harder to see in this pic, which is kinda blurry and taken from a distance.) I don’t look much like I do now (fatter and my hair is a lot shorter) but she didn’t “ewww” me at all.
She likes hearing about us getting married. Noah hated it. He was totally Freudian — he hated hearing that I married Daddy because he only wanted me to marry him. I think maybe this could be an only child thing because the two of us left him out but now then two of us leave the two of them together. In any case, Madison is very sure she will marry Noah someday. Then at the park he found a ring and gave it to her and she squealed, “Now it means we’re married!” Then she hugged him and said, “Awwww, honey!” She was very happy about it.
At the park Madison made friends with everyone she could lay a hand on and Noah sat on top of the playground equipment and watched. That pretty much sums them up. Both were content in their respective worlds.
I have two kids and a delightfully odd husband, Brett. My children are Noah (born to us in 1997) and Madison (born to her first mom, Pennie, in 2004 and brought to our family through a domestic, open adoption). They are my inspiration and also the reason I don't get more done around here.
I'm a writer and sometimes I get published, which is a nice thing. I write for joy, I write for money and when I'm very lucky, both things happen at the same time. My work appears in national publications including Yoga Journal, Disney's Family.com, Utne, Wondertime, Brain Child and Salon. Currently I am working on a book about my daughter's adoption and seeking representation for the proposal. I also own Smart Cookie Communications with my husband.

That is SO funny!
Whenever Nate looks at our wedding photos, he asks where he is. I explain that he wasn’t born yet, but in the pictures that look down on the chapel from the balcony so you only see the back of people, he always sees himself, LOL!
He wants to marry me too, although he hasn’t been talking about it as much as he was during the spring. Maybe since I’ve been taking more privileges away he wants someone a lot nicer
