Two Madison stories

1. The other day Madison took a big bite of wasabi while she was sitting in the back of the car. We were on our way somewhere and eating California rolls on the go and I passed the container back to her. We’ve warned her away from the wasabi before but she needed to try it for herself, I guess. Next thing we know she’s screaming, “OUCH! HELP! MY MOUTH IS BLEEDING! OUCH!” And of course we panicked, me climbing over to the back seat, Brett swerving the car to the side of the road. Once I realized what she’d done (of course we had no water in the car) I was wiping her mouth out with my shirt and then we rushed to a convenience store and got her a drink and a popsicle. It’s a sign of who Madison is that once the initial burning went away (more quickly than I’d thought it would) and the surprise of it, she was more interested in her mistake and was talking quite cheerfully about it. She likes to tell the story now to anyone who will listen.

2. She is disappointed that we have no plans to get another baby in the house for her. She would like a baby and told me to go buy one. I told her you can’t buy babies (adoption reformists among you are snickering, I know) but can only birth or adopt them and that we were doing neither. I told her when she is a grown woman that she can get herself a baby and then she will be the mommy and I will be the grandma. She was horrified at the idea of me being a grandmother but allowed that she will be the mommy. I will have to remain mommy, too, though because that’s how she likes it.

  1. 1. You just made me crave sushi, which I can’t eat right now and a big dollop of wasabi. Mouth. Watering.

    2. LOL @ Madison being horrified at you being a grandmother. When my brother was five and doing a project for kindergarten, he asked my Mom what life was like when she was 50. Of note: she’s not 50 YET.
