I told Pennie to send me the planned-for-menu so I could post it here. This is for Madison’s birthday party (copied and pasted as she wrote it with some commentary by me):
- mini sandwich platter: mini buns [which she will be making because, as she said when I murmured that this was too much, "Dawn, I took a baking class and I'm going to use it!"] turkey, ham, roast beef, chicken salad, swiss, america, provolone,
- star shaped pb+j sandwiches
- fruit salad
- green salad asst. dressing and accompaniments
- scallion cream cheese and lox profiterols w/ fresh dill
- Mini eggrolls- (veg) shredded cheese, mash potatoes, black beans and cilantro
- marinated chicken skewers-asst. sauces
- mini mac and cheese cups
- hummus
- salsa
- white bean spread
- tortilla chips and flatbread
- oh and the paula deen is cheesy fisher cheese ball 86 the swine ya dig!!
[Pennie has issues with Ms. Deen but grants that she makes a fine cheese ball and is substituting pig bacon with turkey bacon]
- and cake [she is making a castle shaped cake -- if all goes well, expect pictures] and ice cream
and I might get my pastry on to, possibly mini chocolate cups with orange pastry cream and white chocolate
or heart shaped eclairs??
She has put me in charge of paper goods, drinks and finding the material for crown-making. Did I mention that on Madison’s second birthday I made a lovely cake but left out the baking soda? It’s in the archives if you don’t believe me. Our new system clearly has a lot more going for it.
I wish I could invite all of y’all but there are going to be lots and lots of people here so even some of our bestest people had to be left off the list. Life isn’t fair, I know. But Pennie is available to cater your affairs! (Seriously. I can hook you up!)
I have two kids and a delightfully odd husband, Brett. My children are Noah (born to us in 1997) and Madison (born to her first mom, Pennie, in 2004 and brought to our family through a domestic, open adoption). They are my inspiration and also the reason I don't get more done around here.
I'm a writer and sometimes I get published, which is a nice thing. I write for joy, I write for money and when I'm very lucky, both things happen at the same time. My work appears in national publications including Yoga Journal, Disney's Family.com, Utne, Wondertime, Brain Child and Salon. Currently I am working on a book about my daughter's adoption and seeking representation for the proposal. I also own Smart Cookie Communications with my husband.

Good gravy! Oh wait, I didn’t see any gravy–maybe Pennie should squeeze that in too. Sounds delish–have a marvelous shindig Madame Four!

what a fun menu! i like that it is all kid oriented and mini, but also fun and almost hors d’oeuvresy for the adults. cool. i may copy some of it at some point (going with just the cheesey or meat/chicken at seperate events
)
also - i once made a new cake recipe and left out the baking soda (and i bake and cook A LOT). we enjoyed it with guests and commented how interesting and dense it was. almost martzipan like. then realized i forgot the baking soda. oops.

Yum. Since I can’t come to the party, I will definitely consider it my right to steal the menu for future events!

Wow, just Wow…. Pennie is amazing. I’m already stressed out about Kelvin’s party on the 20th (40 days late) because there will be TONS and TONS of people. Yikes!!!!! But we’ve had very successful parties before, so this should be OK.
