A very small post

In: The Story of My Life

I’ve got a speaking thing to do tomorrow and then my on-site gig in the afternoon. I took the last couple of days off but I’m down here today to do some catch up work so that next week won’t be too crazy. The kids are off with Brett to see the Bone exhibit at [...]

Madison sez

In: The Story of My Life

Madison: “When I grow up and have a sister, her name is gonna be Mimadonna.” (I think she means when she grows up and has a daughter but I’m not sure and she came up with this after I told Noah to stop mimicking her.)
(and later)
Madison: “Mommy, can you get me a unicycle with training [...]

Like a beeper

In: The Story of My Life

So my friend Kimmb. wrote me warning about blackberry addiction and I explained to her how I’d want to use the thing and she said, “Oh like a beeper!” So I’m stealing that to explain it here. Basically I’m on-call from 9am to 5pm and I want to be on-call and still leave my house. [...]

Brett is working today. In honor of his new job, he bought jeans. The last time I saw Brett in jeans I was pregnant with Noah. I don’t recognize him. He’s more of a khakis guy.
Madison is digging in an enamel pan full of stale grains from the back of my cupboard. Bulgar, stoneground oats, [...]

Gimme five

In: Blogging

Swiped from Susan!
What were you doing five years ago?
Blogs are convenient. Apparently I was buying a fax machine, feeling thankful about not being pregnant and writing one of my favorite blog posts.
What are five things on your to-do list for today (not in any particular order)?
It’s 5:46pm so I’ll list what I’m doing tomorrow:
1. Blog [...]

"It's not only children who grow. Parents do too. As much as we watch to see what our children do with their lives, they are watching us to see what we do with ours. I can't tell my children to reach for the sun. All I can do is reach for it, myself."
Joyce Maynard

About Me

I have two kids and a delightfully odd husband, Brett. My children are Noah (born to us in 1997) and Madison (born to her first mom, Pennie, in 2004 and brought to our family through a domestic, open adoption). They are my inspiration and also the reason I don't get more done around here.

I'm a writer and sometimes I get published, which is a nice thing. I write for joy, I write for money and when I'm very lucky, both things happen at the same time. My work appears in national publications including Yoga Journal, Disney's Family.com, Utne, Wondertime, Brain Child and Salon. Currently I am working on a book about my daughter's adoption and seeking representation for the proposal. I also own Smart Cookie Communications with my husband.
