Also if you have tweens 7 to 13
… and are interested in reviewing a computer game (PCs only) based on Nancy Drew, Get Them Blogging wants to speak with you. (If you’re already in the database, please privatemessage me over there and if you’re not, please sign up and then privatemessage me. I’m gathering interested bloggers to submit to the PR rep.)
I upgraded too quickly
Wordpress 2.1 is buggy so I’d strongly advise y’all not to upgrade (if you were thinking of it) for a few weeks. I’ve had to do techie things to it to make it work and it’s still not all happy-dappy. For one, I’m not getting comments emailed to me and I just figured that out.
I was very busy today — a meeting and an interview — and I was running on very little sleep courtesy of someone small with curly, curly hair who was fretful in her sleep. Three is when we began to transition Noah to his own bed — he’d climb in with us most nights (or rather early mornings) for a long time after but we were starting him in his own bed at three. We think Madison is ready, too. Well, we’re ready anyway and she says she wants to be like Noah and have her own bed. We’re giving her toddler bed to Jenna’s new baby — it’s way too small for Madison, who has never slept in it — and we want to get a twin size. We’ve been lazy about that but nights like last night are great motivators.
Blog stuff
As you may have noticed (and really with so many of you reading via RSS or on LJ or Xanga), I changed my blog template. I’m not sure how I feel about it. This is why I changed:
- Everybody uses Mistylook and I’m contrary and wanted to be different;
- I wanted two sidebars and I like the widgetized footer;
- My blog was running slowly and has some bugs (the change didn’t fix those, by the way, but that’s why I started this mess);
- I wanted to add some bells and whistles including the similar posts, running my feed through feedburner (for more accurate tracking), and some behind the scenes stuff;
- I have mixed feelings about my kids being in my template.
I changed it so there’s only one day’s entries on the front page to try to speed up page loading and I know not everybody likes that. I also had to use a different plugin for the similar posts and this one doesn’t grab posts that are as similar as that first one was grabbing. Also I don’t think this theme is optimized. So I may change it again but I have too much to do to change it today. I hate that. I hate feeling like my blog is not quite right. I’m so picky!
I did add new archives — they look nifty now but I don’t know if they’re easier to read or not. Anyway — things may change. Again. Stay tuned.
PMS sucks
Objectively nothing has changed since yesterday but I woke up with a feeling of impending doom. Ugh.
I added the Similar Posts plug-in because I was trying to find a way to make it easier to dig around in my archives. I’ve been blogging for so damn long that heck, I forget what I’ve written before. I’m cringing when I read some of my pre-Madison adoption posts but at least I was always honest. (sigh)
I need to get back to work now. I’ve done enough stalling. (For those of you reading on blog, this entry’s avatar is Sarah Vaughan in the studio. See how she’s working? That’s what I should be doing. She’s there to inspire me to get back to work.)
If you google Dawn
I’m the eighth entry down. (As of this posting.)
Nifty!
First campaign
The first campaign has launched over at Get Them Blogging. May it be the first of many! By the way, if you or someone you know has a business that could use some buzz, we’re giving away 30-day test memberships to selected people (i.e., anyone that you all send my way). We’ll be doing this at least through May so if you know someone who wants to send out samples and get some traffic to their company web site, have them contact me through the Get Them Blogging web site. I’ll be happy to set them up!
Sheep
I went and got myself a myspace. Lemme know if you want to “friend” me. Now let’s never speak of it again.
It’s still cold
The lilacs are wilting.
I made a lot of updates to Get Them Blogging — go check ‘em out! It’ll be awhile before the newsletter is launched because the script is buggy (the good programmers who know how to do these things are working on it — gotta love open source!) but I’m collecting subscriptions now.
And that is all my fun for today. Must lean nose back into grindstone.
Anyone have any brilliant ideas?
About how to get more bloggers in Get Them Blogging?
I’m testing crossposters
I deleted the Vox crossposter because:
–It was causing double-posts if I edited anything;
–It was posting password-protected entries without making them private;
–Most of the people who read me on Vox probably also read me on LJ (or here).
I tried fixing the LJ poster and this entry is to test it. I also installed a Xanga crossposter.
So this is just a test. Ignore at will.
