World famous (eventually)

This is funny — the band here is my cousin’s (my mom’s nephew). I can’t remember if he plays bass or guitar but it’s something kinda eight-shaped with strings.
Rock Sellout » Grand Archives tour, release a new record
One-time Band of Horses member Mat Brooke has, over the course of the last year and a half or so, assembled together a new band called Grand Archives, who will be releasing their debut via Sub Pop on February 19. The almost self-titled record, The Grand Archives, bears 11 tracks including three from their self-released CD-R release, which you can still pick up in the Sub Pop store. They also just announced a big tour in support of the record, which should be totally awesome. I’ve been candid in the last two years of my love for Band of Horses, and Grand Archives bring a similar, but at times more graceful sound. I think this record, from what I’ve heard of it promises to be a sleeper for one of the finer albums of the year purely due to it’s strength of songcraft and inherent likability.

I have a great song for you

I don’t know why it’s a free download here but it is. It’s a great song for getting your brain moving when you’re, for example, stuck on edits. (Right-click to save.)

Wow, she blew me away!

Generally I hate to see children sing adult songs but this kid blew my mind. Seriously. As they say at the end of the video, “All hairs stand on end.” Boy howdy. Seriously — go here, turn up your speakers and prepare to be amazed!
Grateful hat tip to 11D! Wow!

Thomas Dolby’s Blog has a gift for you:
I announced my presence [to Stevie Wonder], and reminded him we had an anthem to record. He asked if I had any ideas for it. I said, what about a really slow sexy groove on a drum machine, and really spread it out? Stevie thought for a moment, then said ‘uh-uh. Marvin tried that one time man. He sang it that way at an NBA all-star game, and you know what? he never got on TV again until the day he died. Because all the network executives couldn’t handle a black man singing a sexy soul version of the National Anthem.’
He’s got a link to the YouTube and Breath of Life (where I found this link) also has the mp3 of “a black man singing a sexy soul version of the National Anthem.”
Download it and make your holiday a better one!
