My nameservers are down

But sometimes my site is accessible and sometimes it’s not. I can’t get it from my own servers so I’m browsing through a proxy to get here. (I know — this sounds like blah blah blah, doesn’t it? I’m not even sure if I’m using the terms correctly.) Anyway, that’s why I haven’t updated yet.

The kids are fighting something awful today. It’s hot, Madison’s tired (she was up — thus we were up — a lot last night) and there’s a paper route that isn’t going to get done by itself! All of that adds up to extremely grouchy kids, which is contributing to extremely grouchy adults.

I dream of the day when I get to cuddle my husband for hours, chatting — among other things — without interruption. (sigh)

I have a deep post (but this isn’t it)

My brain isn’t working deeply yet. Yesterday I had a lunch meeting then went to my dad’s office and made him update his LinkedIn and link to me. Heh. I’m exploiting my well-connected dad and hitting him up for in-person intros so why not virtual ones??

It’s ironic, considering my father issues (as long-time readers know) that I’m now in a business similar to my dad’s. You know, selling services and networking galore. (My dad is a financial advisor.)

Yesterday I showed him my postcard campaign (the first box arrived yesterday) and he was full of happy surprise and praise. I may be 37-years old but with daddy issues like mine, I have to tell you that praise from my dad goes a long long way.

When I was walking across the sidewalk to meet him at the door of his building and saw him standing there grinning at me in his glasses, looking like the nice little Jewish man that he has become I thought, “I like this guy.”

I’ve come a long way, baby. But then so has he.

We missed Jessica today

Sad sad. Her boyfriend’s band was playing at an outdoor event so we went to hear him and Noah immediately hooked up with some friends and I hooked up with one of my friends and it was lovely and the band is great but no Jessica. She sings with them sometimes and I’ve never heard her sing yet. But we’ll get to sooner or later, probably this summer since they have a couple of other kid-friendly festivals to play.

Her boyfriend is so damn cute. Just gotta toss that out there.

This week is gearing up busy. We have something going the first three evenings — a career event, a Noah event and then a writer-ly event. No new work but something due on Wednesday that will take most of tomorrow and I’m getting further into my essay only all the headway is in my head and nothing has hit paper yet. I’m caught up on 100 Hats, too, so theoretically I should be thinking about doing something new. I do have a press release to write but that’ll be Quick and Easy — will probably do it tomorrow before I get to work on the assignment. Still, I feel like I should stretch myself with one new thing every week and if it’s not something someone else gives me, it should be something I make up myself. See, I have all of this time now.

That’s Sarah Vaughan singing for my avatar, by the way. Isn’t she beautiful?

I believe I forgot to mention that we signed Madison up for preschool this fall. I think it’ll be perfect. NAEYC-accredited, about 50% African American student body, only two mornings a week and then they take the kids swimming once a week. More power to them but how in the hell they’re going to get 16+ kids in their swimsuits, to the pool, out of wet swimsuits and ready to go home in 2.5 hours of preschool is beyond me. Especially if they plan to do anything besides swimming that day (haven’t seen the schedule but at the very least there will be circle time and snack). But more power to them. Madison will love it and now we don’t have to buy her swim lessons, which the budget appreciates. Perfect! All credit goes to AmFam who casually said, “Hey did you know that X preschool near you has NAEYC accreditation?”

Madison is very excited about preschool seeing as how she wants to be big now and get out in the world and do all the things that Noah does. Today she wanted to go with him and his friends to wander around the pond at this big event and I said she was too little and she clenched her fists so tight her whole body shook and she growled, “But I want to be BIG!” She was furious with me. God I love that kid!

How many…?

Question: How many adults does it take to accompany a 9-year old boy and a 2-year old girl trick-or-treating?

Answer: Six. Brett, my dad, Brett’s dad, Brett’s mom, Jessica and Nate. The children were accompanied by quite a crowd — a very cheerful crowd. They came back and ate sandwiches (I’ve got this great recipe for focaccia) and the peanut butter mousse cake (turned out pretty good). Then the grandparents drifted away — my dad took Noah with him to head over to my sister’s. Nate and Jessica hung out for awhile longer. It was a nice Halloween. Hopefully it bodes well for a great holiday season this year.
