She came bearing cookies! Giant chocolate chip cookies, buttery-sugar cookie sandwiches with strawberry marshmallow insides (these must be a variation on the whoopie pies) and some kind of cinnamon-sugar puff balls. My lord. We’re going to be in a sugar coma over here!
Brett said that when he came to pick her up Madison was enjoying [...]
I was talking about this today with my sister. Since quitting work Brett looks a lot better. Younger, for one, and happier. Calmer, less tired and more present in the family. This life really suits him.
He’s starting to enjoy cooking. He’s developing his signature dishes (mostly chicken and rice variations) and broadening his culinary horizons.
He [...]
I ended up getting him:
Two t-shirts from Threadless (they’re on sale for ten bucks a pop and he’s in need of t-shirts he will deign to wear and when he does deign to wear them, he wears them over long sleeves) and while I was there I got one for Brett’s brother because that’s who [...]

The kids woke up first today and Noah helped Madison get dressed. He’s getting excited about the holidays and he likes to fill her in on how things will work.

I have two kids and a delightfully odd husband, Brett. My children are Noah (born to us in 1997) and Madison (born to her first mom, Pennie, in 2004 and brought to our family through a domestic, open adoption). They are my inspiration and also the reason I don't get more done around here.
I'm a writer and sometimes I get published, which is a nice thing. I write for joy, I write for money and when I'm very lucky, both things happen at the same time. My work appears in national publications including Yoga Journal, Disney's Family.com, Utne, Wondertime, Brain Child and Salon. Currently I am working on a book about my daughter's adoption and seeking representation for the proposal. I also own Smart Cookie Communications with my husband.
