I wrote to the Methodist Children’s Home here in town about working as a resident assistant there. It would be great to get a swing-shift/weekend position or even an occasional job as a substitute but I have no idea if they’re hiring.
It sucks because here in Ohio I’m not qualified to do the job that I did in Oregon because I don’t have my masters in Social Work. Even suckier, if I *did* have my MSW, I would still be getting paid the lousy $9 an hour I was being paid in Oregon but I would owe about $20,000 more on my student loans. Social workers totally get screwed.
I really really really miss social work. I would dearly love to get a part-time job in the field.

I have two kids and a delightfully odd husband, Brett. My children are Noah (born to us in 1997) and Madison (born to her first mom, Pennie, in 2004 and brought to our family through a domestic, open adoption). They are my inspiration and also the reason I don't get more done around here.
I'm a writer and sometimes I get published, which is a nice thing. I write for joy, I write for money and when I'm very lucky, both things happen at the same time. I know the feeling. I would LOVE an art history type job but, um, well, you can guess how much that would pay (even with a PhD!)…I’d never pay off my loans.
I hope you can find something that works for you.
