It’s only the third day of NaNoBloPo and here I am already thisclose to flaking. When in doubt, list post!

  • Madison is “cleaning” up the floor with her bed pillow. She’s sliding down the hall on it and she says it’s picking up the dirt. Awesomeness. Really it’s a help because we’re out of vacuum bags. At least that’s what I’m telling myself so I won’t holler. (Madison is very busy and very creative, which means I do a lot of looking on the bright side because otherwise her world would be one big NO and really that’s the last thing a busy and creative person needs. A busy and creative person needs a lot of YES with reasonable limits and the parents of said busy and creative person needs to work on reorienting herself to what’s actually reasonable.)
  • Noah’s role playing game met for the first time in three weeks (illness — mine) and they had a good time. I’m trying to talk Noah into being the game master after this next time because they’ll likely get done with the dungeon and my goal is to hand it off to the kids and just supervise or be on call for help. Since Noah lives with me, handing it off to him next makes the most sense since we can work on creating a new adventure together and then he can work with his friend when it’s the next person’s turn and so on. He’s intrigued with the possibilities.
  • Because we are working our way through Lost with Noah (we’re on season five now), everyone in the family (besides me) keeps walking around saying, “See you in another life, brother” and “You’re going to die, Charlie” with bad Scottish accents (they’re imitating Desmond). I can’t decide if this is hilarious or annoying. Probably both. Brett’s saying it over and over again right now while he cleans the kitchen. Brett talks to himself a lot. Just so you know.
  • Noah’s favorite characters are Sawyer and Daniel Faraday. Brett likes Daniel Faraday, too. I like Juliet. Madison just finds it brutally unfair that she doesn’t get to watch it but she makes up for it by participating in the Desmond imitation events.
  • She also likes to imitate Scarlett Johansson in this SNL skit. She’s pretty good, too.
  • I have a lot of writing to do this week for non-work stuff and a lot of designing to do for work stuff. Thank god I’m feeling better because my brain needs to be on overdrive. I’m already behind in my personal statement for my grad school application. I wanted to get it done last week to send out with my reference letter requests. The whole package is due 12/1. Argh. There isn’t enough time in the day.
  • The BlogHer people asked me to remind you about the Sonicare giveaway! So I am. I’m obedient like that! I don’t really know how the giveaway works — think I should reread the rules? Ok, I will then. Meanwhile, it really is an awesome toothbrush so go ahead and enter!

One more way I’m sure that Bert and Brett were surgically separated at birth. Bert talks to himself all the time.

The kids love to catch him doing it and repeat it to the rest of the family. Sometimes he’ll notice them listening and say “Kids are no damn good.”
