- I changed out my linkedin profile to reflect my new job after I went and looked up the title. Apparently I’m the Marketing Communications Manager. Nifty!
- Noah had his birthday party yesterday and the kids played charades and Telephone Pictionary, which is an invention of my friend Catherine. The Telephone Pictionary works like this: You take a sheet of paper and write a sentence at the top and then hand that to the person sitting next to you. He or she draws a picture representing what the sentence says. Then he or she folds down the top (so you can’t see the sentence but can see the picture) and hands it to the next person. That person then writes a sentence based on what they think the picture means. Then they fold down the top further so you can only see their sentence and they hand it on again so that the next person does a picture based on that LAST sentence. I think it goes around the room until there are three pictures and four sentences. At the end, you unfold all the papers and see how the first sentence is changed. It’s pretty fun and usually funny.*
- After they played their games, they had make-your-own sundaes. And popcorn. There was a lot of squealing and laughing so I think it was good.
- Sadly Madison’s friend Ginger who came over to keep her company went home and threw up a lot. Not from the sundaes, from a bug.
- Noah is supposed to go to Kalahari with the homeschool potluck families for this big unschooler convention thingie (Brett and I couldn’t swing it with job stuff so Madison is staying but the nice potluckers offered to bring Noah along). He’s terrified people will be throwing up and the trip will get canceled.
- I’m just terrified people will be throwing up period.
- Pennie and Madison chatted on Friday and Pennie asked Madison how she was doing about the baby. Madison said, “I’m getting more used to the idea.” Madison is very frank! By the way, Pennie does read this blog sometimes and she happened to read one post about the new baby and the very first comment really hurt her feelings. (She commented back, too.) I mention this so that people can remember to be considerate.
- Pennie and I are going to go thrifting for maternity clothes so she can show me what she likes. I was going to buy her something Friday (where I was finding adorable and barely worn Earth Shoes for four bucks to wear to work) but was afraid that I’d screw up her style. Also then she can show me what baby clothes she thinks are adorable. New baby to buy for! Yippee!
- Brett is cleaning the house so that when I come home tomorrow from my long day at work it’ll all be clean and delightful. I’m going to make something in the crockpot, too, to lessen my worries. Now I’m just praying for 1) no more snow; and 2) no throwing up from anybody who lives here.
- I can’t wait to get to work tomorrow because I want to get going on the job and get stuff DONE. (There’s a lot to do before their big annual conference in May.)
- I forgot to mention that Wednesday was not only Noah’s 12th birthday, it was also the anniversary of when we got the call that Pennie chose our profile. I really love that that happened on Noah’s birthday; so does he. Come to think of it, so does Madison!
* Here’s a scan of the Telephone Pictionary Noah did at the grown-up party where he learned about it and the one he did with the kids yesterday so you can see how it works. (Click to make them bigger — the first one is hard to read but he stole the line from a Naruto episode. It says: The blood boils when the moon is full. It somehow morphs to: Monday at high noon Cabot will be grilling brats! The second one starts out with: Son of a McMuffin and ends with: Persen [sic].)

Dawn — you can tell Pennie (if she is interested) that I didn’t mean to be disrespectful at all. I was thinking all about her and Madison. I wrote my comment *assuming* Pennie of course loves Madison. Maybe I should just have been more generically supportive and optimistic but I was honestly thinking about all the new situations that might arise. My comment was not meant to be any kind of a judgment on Pennie. I am sorry it came out that way.
Good luck tomorrow, Dawn! Have fun and enjoy your cute and comfy Earth shoes. Lucky.
Oh wow. Telephone pictionary is great. I need to try it myself. I love the “The volcanoes blew up” transformation to “Models dance”. It’s an interesting demo, actually, about something about perception. The person looking at the “volcanoes” is trying to impose structure on them, and comes up with a new interpretation of the ambiguous image. I love it.
Thinking about you on your first day of work…hope it was fabulous!
