I am so so so tired. I had so much to do today and it’s now 10pm and I’m just now stopping for a minute before I go back to working. Tomorrow is Noah’s 12th birthday but because of the snow, I didn’t get to take care of all the plans I had for him!! Happily his party is Saturday so I told him tomorrow may have to be low-key (we’re under a winter storm warning) but we’ll make it up to him this weekend. Plus Brett seems to be sick — here’s hoping it’s a 24 hour thing because he doesn’t have sick days. (Poor Brett! And really I’d love to have him home a day but I’m afraid he’ll drag himself in because he’ll worry that it’ll screw everyone up if he stays home.)

And now for the no-brainer meme because I find memes restful.

1. Make a list of things you can see without getting up:

  • Mini-mate back-up drive, which holds all my iTunes and used to hold my hard-drive back-ups until I switched to Mozy.
  • Hand-thrown green bowls in graduated sizes made by Brett’s little brother, Wick, which hold other people’s business cards, my old IDs, eyeglass cleaner and dental floss.
  • My creature speakers.
  • My glasses case.
  • Pen holder with a ton of whiteboard pens (even though my whiteboard is gone), scissors the kids haven’t stolen yet because they’re the brokenish scissors, pencils with broken lead and a couple of pens.
  • My Madonna cordless headset so I can type and talk on the phone at the same time (for interviews and client meetings).
  • A lint-free bright blue microfiber cloth for cleaning my monitor screen, which reminds me I should clean it.

2. How do you style your hair?
I don’t. It’s kinda sorta curly-ish so it looks best when I don’t. Sometimes I blow dry it a little bit, just so I’m not walking out the door looking like I fell in the pool.

3. What are you wearing now?
Black dress, blue cardigan. And my blue croc houseshoes. I came home from a business meeting and dinner w/friends and just took off my tights and put on my houseshoes and came on down here to work.

4. Do you have some sort of secret superpower?
Yes. But if I told you it wouldn’t be a secret.

5. What’s the last thing you read/are currently reading?
Actually this year I’m keeping track of the books I read on Goodreads. (If you go to my About page, I have a widget.) Right this minute I’m reading As I Lay Dying. I haven’t read it since college and I remember liking it then. I like it even better now.

6. Do you nap a lot?
No. But this Saturday Madison climbed up on me while I lying on the couch reading and she fell right asleep. She was so warm and cozy that for a tiny bit I fell asleep, too. It was only for a few minutes (I could still hear Brett moving around the house but I was dreaming at the same time — you know how that is) and it was wonderful.

7. Who was the last person you hugged?
Madison. She just came down here to complain that I wasn’t in bed yet.

8. What’s your current fandom/obsession/addiction?
I don’t usually get obsessed about stuff. Although sometimes there’ll be a song I want to hear over and over. Right now? Nothing going on like that.

10. What was the last thing you ate today?
A fortune cookie at China Dynasty with the potluck people even though it’s not potluck.

11. What was the last thing you said aloud?
“I know, honey, I wish I could come upstairs now, too. Did you go potty?”

12. What websites do you always visit when you go online?
Every morning when I get online I go to my gmail account, then my feedreader, then my LJ friends page. Once I’ve done this, my coffee is usually all drunk up and I’m ready to face my day.

13. Last thing you bought:
Besides dinner? (Because Brett handled that bill.) Ummm, I think milk? No, wait. I bought an application for my iPod so I can send free text messages to Pennie! (We turned the text messaging off of my phone because I was getting spam messages.)

14. What are you listening to right now?
“Parentheses” by The Blow

15. What’s the last song that got stuck in your head?
“That’s Not My Name” by the Ting Tings

16. If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
Invisibility, I guess. So I could take a break from socializing but still go out and do stuff. (I’m feeling extra introverted right now because I’m tired.)

17. What is your favorite weather, and why?
Windy fall or spring days. Cool and wild with the trees getting a little crazy. Always feels like something special is going to happen on days like that.

18. How are you?
I’m tired but content.

19. What’s something you’d like someone to say to you right now?
I’d like Brett to say: “Wow, I’m feeling much better!”

I love the little peeks into people’s everyday lives. But then I got to #15, and immediately a song from I don’t even remember when, Endicott by Kid Creole and The Coconuts popped into my head, because when it came out it got permanently stuck in there for like, years. Really drove me nuts. I finally got rid of it, until one day a couple of years ago I had to contact someone at work whose last name was Endicott. Another couple of months go buy with that inane song making me nuts.

Oh, lordy, here we go again.

I wish I could be invisible too. It would be so great to just listen to what people say without attracting any attention.

Although it would have it’s down sides. Can’t really think of any right now…
