Tenuous ties
LIE: “They live half a mile from William Ayers, the unrepentant terrorist” and “Just a half a mile from those homes is Louis Farrakhan.”(Hannity’s America, October 5, 2008, “Obama and His Friends: History of Radicalism”)
TRUTH: It’s true, of course, that Obama lives in this same neighborhood, as do tens of thousands of other people who presumably are also guilty by geographical association. The logic of this argument would be, if you live half a mile from a sex offender, then you agree with child molesters.LIE: Obama and Ayers “appeared together at various public engagements…it would seem that they are more than just a little bit friendly.”(Sean Hannity, Hannity’s America, October 5, 2008, “Obama and His Friends: History of Radicalism”)
TRUTH: Appearing on a speaking panel is not a sign of friendship. There is no evidence that Obama had any role in ever inviting Ayers to speak.
from Thirty Lies Refuted About Ayers and Obama
Can you imagine? That’s like saying because you read my blog you agree with me about EVERYTHING. “So-and-So running for office has this woman’s work bookmarked. Cleary So-and-So is a pro-choice homeschool zealot who wants to open all adoption records and force kids to listen to showtunes!”
(Ok, the open all adoption records and showtune-listening, it’s true we should do more of that but I’ll leave the rest to your own opinions.)
In other words, you better stop reading me now unless you agree with every little last thing I say so that no one gets the wrong idea about you!
Now I’m off to scour my own bookmarks and eliminate every single person who ever made one comment, blog entry, messageboard post or email that in some way goes against any opinion I have ever held to secure my potential future career in politics. I want to head off trouble before it starts!

“Cleary So-and-So is a pro-choice homeschool zealot who wants to open all adoption records and force kids to listen to showtunes!””
HA! That made me laugh out loud–especially the showtunes part.
I just want you to know that I read your blog because I am all about the showtunes.
If only Obama were chummy with Ayers and Dorn! Fork power! That would be a reason to vote for him. Alas! he’s just another statist who wants to tell me how to live. I can’t wait to get out of this rat hole.
You’re doomed. As are you readers, as I work “with” Ayers at the same campus (never met the guy) AND I’ve met Obama. You’re all guilty!!
wahahaha!!
i’ve seen some of this stuff, but none like it about mccain. i wonder if it is a way for people to deal with obama being ‘different’ without dealing with race.
and besides that, i definitely agree about the showtunes.
Oh Roni, I knew it! You’re a … a … LIBERAL!!!!!
This is terrible news, because I’ve lived in major cities, I teach, and , well — Can you imagine who I might be associated with? But worst of all, on one occasion I actually MET you, Dawn, and we were “friendly” — we’ve even exchanged email!!!
This is why I’m not fit to run for office.
(Of course, if I were married to a separatist, that would be okay.)
It’s not possible to do progressive political work, let alone educational or legal reform work, in Chicago without rubbing elbows with Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn. I have had drinks with both of them, which I suppose now makes me guilty of domestic terrorism by association. Wait — I’ve also had drinks with Laura Whitehorn, who was actually *jailed* for domestic terrorism activities after she and some others splintered off of Weather Underground! She’s now Senior Editor for POZ Magazine, which means the bulk of the US HIV/AIDS activist population is also guilty of associating with terrorists!
Sorry for contaminating your blog with my terrorist-once-removed agenda, Dawn. You’ll probably get “the AIDS” now too, cuz I hear that can be transmitted by keyboard.
Lula! You broke my chances at higher office, dangit! You big city cultural elites!
Glancing through Bill Ayers’s wikipedia entry makes me love him what with all that progressive urban schooling activism. Obama isn’t far-left enough for me but I bow to the more mainstream needs of the majority, may their votes be heard this time around!!!!
You are such a crack up. I do love show tunes tho … maybe you do have a strange and powerful influence.
Uh-oh. My best friend lives in THE SAME BUILDING with Farrakhan! And now I have admitted that I know it! I’m a terrorist!
