All shook up

Seems like I’m living in a snowglobe minus the snow. I’m discombobulated and every time I think I’ve got my footing again — shake shake shake — I’m knocked off balance.

Good news: Let go of a timesuck client that people have been telling me to let go of for months.

(shake shake shake)

Bad news: Client still hasn’t paid me for last month of work.

(shake shake shake)

Good news: I think working around Brett’s schedule is more than do-able because the kids are older, I’m better organized and teleivion is a magical baby sitter.

(shake shake shake)

Bad news: Brett isn’t loving the job.

It’s kinda like that only it’s everything. Every. Little. Thing. So that’s how my mood is, too.

Good news!

(shake shake shake)

Bad news!

(shake shake shake)

Ad infinitum.

I am neither happy nor sad about this or that or the other thing but I am interested — sorta like a bystander in denial that the shake-ups are actually happening to me. I find this to be a sanity-saver since I’m pretending not to nice the way I’m being buffeted by whichever rotten kid is messing with my personal snowglobe.

  1. I’m sorry my friend for all this shaking… We’ve been shakin’ on and off over here since last October 31st when K was laid off. only ours is one shake every couple of weeks or so.

I feel REALLY sorry for you guys because right now we’re in a good moment… K went to Penn today for the first time and he’s VERY excited, delighted really with going back there. The renovations are finally drawing to a close and we’re feeling at peace (in spite of the AWFUL dark cloud of the financial troubles looming in the horizon) with his decision, with life as it is now. I know we have to savor the moment because the shakin’ might be coming! (we can control it up to a certain point, we could decide not to sell the house, but that might be worse and put a huge financial strain in our lives).

Sorry for going on and on about us — it’s only that I feel we’re experiencing similar “shakings.”

Keep us posted. Meanwhile, I’ll be thinking positive thoughts about Brett (praying is OK too, right?).

  2. Looking forward to potluck yet? We could do it here this week-something to look forward too and an evening your kids will be out of your hair! And you don’t have to worry about dinner. “Shake, Shake, Shake, Shake a shake shake”-that new song on the radio!

  3. Oh goodness, I’m ALL for prayers! Especially because I think they work! I do appreciate your good thoughts, Lillian, since I know that you guys have been through hell this year. Hope that this quieter time is a sign that you can relax for awhile!!!

  4. Sometimes having a little less emotional investment in one’s own life (I know — it sounds crappy at first) is a good thing — and such a relief!

I’m sorry Brett’s not happy with the job — that sucks. I guess he’ll give it more time.

  5. I vote for potluck at Kristen’s to settle the shaking. Yes, please.
