Phone calls
Mar 4, 2008 Feminism/Politics
I voted today before lunch but that hasn’t stopped the politicos (and their recorded doppelgangers) from calling. Just now “Hillary” called me (for the third time) on my work phone while “Obama” left a message on our phone upstairs. I’d say between the two of them I’ve gotten maybe seven or eight calls.
I don’t think I’ve ever been this excited about a primary EVER.

When our mayor won a few years ago, it was directly attributed to the whole “get out the vote ” work his campaign did. We started answering the phone “yes I voted and I voted for the mayor.”

Tonight, Mr. A is going to be one of the observers of the certification of the ballots. I am not exactly sure what that means, but he will be there as each precinct’s numbers are verified. So he will know who won before the TV people do. I find this incredibly annoying because he is refusing to call me so I can break the news on my blog before the big networks.

Are you still divided? I guess you must have made up your mind! It must be SO incredible to be in Ohio these days!!!

Well I cast my absentee ballot in Ohio. I left the republican party last year, and wanted to be an independent, which would have meant that I wouldn’t have been able to vote for anybody really.
However they screwed me up, so I got stuck in the democratic party, which of course doesn’t fit me.
I voted for Hillary. And then I cried for a really long time LOL

Susan, my mind is so made up now that I’m going to be very sad if Hillary’s lead holds here!!

What’s up with Cinncinnati? All other metro areas seem to favor Obama, but they go for Clinton.

Oh hell, I meant Cleveland.

Oh man, I wish I could say the same! I was waffling until the very last minute. Literally, standing at the booth, now knowing what to do. Eventually pulled the trigger for Obama, but it was HARD.
I do have to say though, it was a choice between two great candidates for me, so I will be happy either way.
If Hillary does win, I will be a little sad that I won’t be able to claim a vote for her though.

All the polls that show people who thought race was important voted for Hillary in Ohio. That bugs me. A lot.

BAH. Looking at that county by county map of how people voted, I can’t help but think that race is the deciding factor in the non-urban areas. Tonight has made me a very bitter democrat. I think Hillary is acting like a smug, mean jerk.

AmFam, I agree. I can’t bear to look at her anymore. I feel bitter and sad about the whole thing, and I DO think it is about race. Ugh.

My 9-year-old answered the phone at 7 last night, cupped his hand over the receiver and whispered loudly, “It’s Barack Obama.” And then he realized it was a recording and was disappointed. But not a second later, our doorbell rang and standing there in the sleet/driving snow mix that had crippled much of Northeast Ohio last night was an Obama supporter going door to door to get out the vote. I was impressed. No other presidential candidate in history has ever had a volunteer knock on my door.
I’m saddened at Ohio’s outcome, but will continue to hope for better.
