Noah’s neopet account was hacked

He lost a bunch of virtual stuff he bought with birthday money. He’s a mess.

I feel bad for him but also my parental self is thinking this is a good lesson about living in an internet age. It just sucks when life lessons are so damn painful (and expensive) to learn.

We took the kids over to the school to vote. Madison marched in and announced, “Mommy is here to vote for Obama!”

The other day Brett took Madison on a walk and she was pushing her stroller with one of her zillions of dolls inside. A mom pushing her own stroller came by and said, “Oh, are you taking your baby on a walk?”

“Yes,” said Madison then added, “She just came out of my uterus.”

  1. a ha ha - I love her wit!

  2. Poor Noah. I thought Neopets were like webkinz- isn’t it virtual money you buy things with? Actually I don’t even really understand webkinz. Bert looked at it and decided it would be hard for adults to mess with Lin on it, and that’s about as far as I’ve gone.

We are internet naive. Our kids don’t have myspace or facebook. They email, they listen to music, but not too much else.

  3. It is like webkinz but you pay real money to get virtual currency. So he spent his money on a couple of neocash cards to buy outfits and things for his neopets. We have him blocked up so he can only hook up with friends but someone got in there and changed his name and birthdate and stole a bunch of the stuff he bought with his neocash.

  4. She’s a riot…around that age ky turned to a little girl who was talking about her little brother being in her mom’s tummy (mom was pregnant) and very loudly said “it’s NOT in the tummy…I’ts in THE UTERUS!” yeah…that’s what you get when you teach kids to call body parts by their proper names (not even gonna tell you all the “vulva” incidents…too embarrasing!LOL) - I loved the Obama comment too…how cute!

Feel bad for Noah though…it is a good lesson in today’s day and age BUT the sense of violation is just as bad as if someone had stolen his wallet…what kind of person would do that w/ kid stuff (unless adults play Neopets…I’m not “up to it” w/ today’s stuff).

  5. Poor Noah. What is wrong with Neopia these days?

Lol about Madison. Maya was marching in saying, “ObamaObamaObamaObamaObamaObama.” And when the screen popped up to vote, Lena pointed to the screen and said, “Oh! There’s Obama, Mama!” So much for confidentiality.

  6. madison making us all smile again.

really frustrating and annoying about neopets. my kids are also pretty oblivious to the internet and mostly use it with my help for researching school stuff, games, and some email. oh, and calling grandparents on skype.

  7. Madison is just great! And I’m so sorry for Noah… :-(

Well and we’re here looking at the election results so far, open mouthed. K read something about Rush Limbaugh having told republicans to go vote for Clinton… oh boy.

Oh, and in 2004 Bill Clinton left a message on our machine. We don’t even vote! It was funny to hear it though…

  8. Wait… I’m trying to understand what happened. Did he lose his account then to hack? If he still has his account, then he should still have his items purchased with neocash, those are non-transferable… it’s the neopoints stuff that you earn without money that are easily lost when hacked.

Did you or he fill out this form if he can’t log on anymore? http://www.neopets.com/autoform_abuse.phtml?abuse=account

Because if he can get his account back, the neocash stuff should still be linked to the account, it’s just the neopoints stuff that could have been lost.

    Still, sucks beans though.

  9. Laurel, maybe you can help me figure it out. His account is there and he can login to it but his name and birthdate are both changed and he’s missing a bunch of the stuff he bought. I don’t understand it.

  10. Has his email been changed?

  11. I’m not sure — I forwarded him your email and I’m going to have him look at it again tomorrow.

  12. Okay, keep in mind that neopets doesn’t let anyone change the birthdate after the account has been activated. I had one account that I could never activate because the email I used sucked and bounced the activation email. I created a second account which is the one I use now, but I goofed the day part of the birthdate, and there isn’t any way to edit it.

I’d be glad to help though, because the whole hacked thing sucks beans.
