Results are coming in
Feb 27, 2008 Adoption
Survey results are trickling in and they are giving me a lot to think about. I’m really anxious to get a whole bunch more responses so I can look hard at trends and hopefully learn a thing or two.
Again, if you’re a member of an adoption-oriented community, will you please share the url? I’ll write about the results after I get back from the AAC conference (I’m gathering the information for my presentation).
Speaking of which, the whole conference thing is a big mess for me because I’m an idjit. When I agreed to present I was thinking they were asking for me to be there on 3/26 because I somehow transposed the 9 in 3/29. Well, 3/30 is Madison’s fourth birthday, oops. And I’m in Ohio and the conference is in Oregon so getting home in time for a party was going to be a hardship. Pennie offered to move the party (and then admitted that there was a big shindig going on that night that she was hoping to make) and we were both relieved that the OTHER person also had plans. Anyway. Since we have family in Portland and Eugene, we decided all four of us would fly out there (especially because we missed our Florida vacation). Only the cost of us all going out — even if we stay with friends/family — means that I can’t get to the first two days of the conference. Plus if we’re out there in part to visit said friends/family, we won’t have time.
Only the conference looks GREAT and I’m feeling very sorry about missing it.
I’m registered for the day I present (presenters get fifty bucks off registration but otherwise need to cough up the fee) and between you and me, the people presenting against me look interesting enough that I’m a little gloomy about having to actually show up for my own!
But the people I’m missing! Nancy Verrier. Joe Soll. Sharon Roszia (the person who inspired me to start OpenAdoptionSupport.com). Rats and rats again. But I will get to see Barbara Bisantz Raymond, author of The Baby Thief!
I feel pretty stupid about creating this big mess for myself but am hoping I can quit punishing myself (ask Brett — I’m insufferably self-punitive around this) and enjoy the friends, the family and the conference (what I get to see of it).

I think “Yay to openness” should be the Open Adoption Support motto.
