Please pass it on!

I’ve put together a survey to identify the needs of the open adoption community to direct future development of Open Adoption Support and I need your help! Please answer the survey and share it in any adoption-related communities!

You can find the survey here. Please pass it on to anyone who might be interested in helping out!!

Slightly unrelated comment: I was wondering what answer would you give to Kateri’s questions in her latest post. In a sense her book would be a counterpart to yours… well, I hope you comment over there.

Kateri and I just emailed about it actually! (I sent her an email after I read her post the other day.) But basically I said that I thought she should position the book as a feminist manifesto and not “just” an adoption book. She has a story that would interest way more people than an editor might assume glancing and thinking “oh adoption book” and that’s a packaging/presentation thing with the proposal.

Honestly Juno is a help here because it showed that adoption stories don’t have to live in an adoption ghetto.

I would love to see a modern birth/first mom story because right now — other than Juno — there’s this sort of idea that adoption doesn’t really happen like that anymore. Even Juno had sort of a retro feel.

I don’t fall into any of those pull down bar descriptions by the way.

  4. Lilian Says:

Oh, thanks for responding (here rather than there since you already were in touch with her by email)!

I wholeheartedly agree! And Kateri is already approaching the issue from a feminist point of view (confronting the feminists too, which is great). I just saw her latest post come up in your feedreader there and read it.

I wanted to fill in the questionnaire but I didn’t quite fit with any of it, (my adoption was a test case. one of the very first (maybe even the first) legally binding open adoptions in the UK)

also I love this blog, I am usually really, really wary of adoptive parents but I’ve been reading you on and off for a while now and I think you’re ace!

  7. Dawn Says:

Orphan Daughter, I’m hearing it’s not written very well for adoptees. I’m sorry about that! I should have made it explicitly parents or adoptees instead of trying to get everyone to fit!!!

And I’m adding you to my feedreader — I’m glad you commented! :)
