If you use Firefox and Google Reader
You must get this extension: Better GReader :: Firefox Add-ons
It lets you click within your google reader to open a person’s page, which means no more clicking through the reader and opening a new tab or page so you can comment or read past the short excerpts. That way when you’re done reading (and commenting) you just keep scrolling through your reads. Yes, my friends, you never need to leave your feedreader to read your blog friends!
Excerpts of feeds? DRIVE ME CRAZY. I know some of you are all about the stats (and may I mention that if you have wordpress and are hosting you can use the feedburner plugin to see how many people subscribe to your feed regardless of where they’re reading — no it doesn’t help your ad stats but it’s good for the ego).
It’s rare that I click through to read a whole entry because I’m subscribed to (I just checked) 269 blogs so yes, generally I scan (a bunch of those are work-ish related and a handful of total timesuck mp3 blogs but that’s also not counting my livejournal friends list). But now my feedreading life is easier!
Please join me in the goodness that isĀ Better GReader.
(I assume, of course, that you’re already a Firefox person and not using that bane of the web designer’s existence, Internet Explorer. And if you’re not, join the beauty that is the opensource platform!)

I’m a Firefox and Google person, but I don’t use a feedreader. You may just have convinced me to do it… but I’ll sit on this one for a while, and keep it in mind. I already do spend LOTS of time reading blogs, it’s just that by using the blogroll on my side bar I have this feeling of control, you know… There are blogs I check only every two weeks or so, and a handful I check every single day. Email, on the other hand, I read all the time and I’m afraid that a feedreader would make me get even more addicted to reading blogs, like I am to email.
But this add-on sounds fabulous! Hope you had a good day and mahvelous conversation with your sister. I sometimes wish I had a sister (much less than I’ve always wished for a daughter), but then maybe we’d be so different that we wouldn’t even be friends and I’d be heartbroken. I feel sad that my brother and I aren’t close :(. Ok, wanna add a post to my 365 1 blog and then go to bed.
(oh, and one more “silly” thing, I used to be near 170 in the “comment count” and now I’m down to 130 … is that because of the lost comments in the December posts?)
Sweet!
FABULOUS! This is the best thing EVER!
And yeah. The Feedburner stat is nice. If you care about those things anymore. LOL And no, I rarely, if ever, click through on exceprts. Why? Out of spite. It annoys me. Yeah, I’m kind of lamelikethat. HA!
But seriously? As I’m replying FROM my googlereader right now? I AM STOKED. You made this very tired Jenna mama veryveryhappy!
Honestly, Jenna, as I typed this last night I thought of you.
Guess what I’m doing.
Commenting from my reader!
WOOHOO
Dawn, you rock!
seriously
could you rock anymore?
Thank you so much
This small thing has made life easier!
woo woo
I am so blog world illiterate. I have no reader, I don’t know how to do anything, but darn it, I’m taking this as a sign that I need to figure this out!!
Oh I hope I’m smart enough to figure this out!
Thanksgivingmom (by the way, I never comment on your blog because I think I need to register? But you are one of my 269 blogreads so I’m out there!) — if you need help, hit me up.
Hmph. Cool. Just installed it. Also google and firefox over here. Thanks for sharing.
Dawn, thanks a million. You just made googlereader work for me.
This sounds like a great extension, so I’m definitely going to check it out.
But as someone who is becoming increasingly guilty of excerpting my posts *hangs head in shame* I just wanted to say that the reason I do that is not for stats (and I don’t have ads). I’m just so insecure about what I write that I can’t stand the thought of having entire bad posts still sitting in people’s readers after I’ve changed my mind and taken them down.
Sang-Shil, so far your worries are unfounded! And I’m glad to be able to actually read you without effort now!
I use Firefox and Google Reader, so I was thrilled to read about this add-on. I downloaded it, restarted Firefox, but… nothing. Posts still appear as excerpts. What am I doing wrong?
Linda, click the title of the post like you would to open it in a new window and it should open up in the same window.
