My big old site
I think I need to start taking down some archives. My site is just too big, my database is just too complicated. I think that what I’d like to do is whittle things down and streamline it. The reason NOT to do it just yet is that the ridiculous size of my archives gives me great search engine juice and frankly, I need my hits to stay up while I work on selling my book.
So that’s another reason I hope to sell my book. Fame, fortune and a smaller blog. (Truthfully I do not expect fame or fortune — just more opportunity. But a smaller blog, now that’s a realistic goal!)
I’ve got a bunch of work to do but want to write an Actual Blog Entry today if I clear my desk soon enough. Here’s hoping!!

ah, but i just used a quote from your archives for a women’s discussion group i was running!
(main topic was feminism and various personal issues that may be impacted by it - one issue we dealt with was linda hirschman’s article and responses about work and staying home. so i took some of what you wrote along with some other responses. )
See, now that’s a substantial entry but for every one of those there are three like the one I just posted today!
i assume you can export or save it electronically in xml? or maybe even blurb it? seems a shame to just lose it. arent you attached to it? i am to mine. everytime i think about archiving or deleting i get paranoid “what if there is some kinda golden words there?”
Suz, I do have back-ups and to restore this blog I had to put it all in the test blog I run on my desktop so I even have it in blog form! That’s what I’d do when I dismantle it. That’s a long way off though.
Hmmm, would you have to take down things, though? Why not get another blog with the same name and keep this one (or another “archival one”) for reference after you’ve done your publicity for the book.
I hope you sell your book because it’s a story that people NEED to read and they don’t even know they do. The rest will follow!
Lilian, I also want to do it because the gigantic enormousness of this blog makes it unwieldy for all the fancy stuff I’d love for it to do. But it’s a long way off and it was just yesterday when I was cussing and fussing trying to get my site back that I thought, “Damn, this site is too stupid big.” I may change my mind when I quit being so pissed off about it.
