A sad thing, a happy thing

Madison lost her beloved Bisty Baby somehow in the past few weeks. She was missing her an awful lot and one day she came into the kitchen and said to me, “I just miss my child.” Well, I told my mom that and because my mom was the original purchaser of Bitsy, she went right out and got her another doll to be Bitsy’s sister.
The doll is beautiful — better than Bitsy, frankly, with curly, curly hair and a weighted body (Madison likes her babies to be heavy like real babies) and perfectly sculpted hands and feet.
Madison went over to Grandma’s to be surprised and when she saw the doll she went right over to pick her up and pet her. When Brett strapped her into the carseat, still clutching the doll, she said, “Wait a second, do I get to take her home, too???”
Madison (who won’t answer these days unless we call her Laura) named the doll Cynthia. Cynthia is two, was born in Africa but had a birthday in Arizona and has a birth mama named Alakazam. She joins us at our meals and cuddles up in bed with us. Last night they watched a DVD together under Madison’s special blanket. Madison will be heading over to Jessica’s on Wednesday to make cookies and Cynthia will, of course, be coming, too.
This morning Madison/Laura told me, “Sometimes she messes with my stuff and I get mad. Then her Daddy comes and takes her upstairs to watch a show. Even when I get mad, mommies love their children.”
Gee, I wonder what inspired that narrative???

Alakazam. What a fantastic name!

That’s awesome.
I wonder, can you tell where she got Laura from? Is she a Little House fan?

Jentle, I just asked Madison and she said, “Because it’s beautiful. Type in that, ok? Are you? Type Laura. Does Laura start with BAJ?” (I’m typing as she talks.)

Man….I could never overdose on your kids! I used to love playing role reversal games w/ Ky at that age…it really gives you insight as to how they see you. It’s neat to see them treat their dolls the way you treat them because it’s true…mommies do love their children even when they are mad!

It’s so great to have a baby from Africa. That Laura is one smart cookie–can’t wait to see her soon!

And I’ll have you know, Ms. Day, that this afternoon she changed the baby’s name to Astrid! Now I have no idea where she got THAT one!

Wow, Laura, Cynthia, and now Astrid? All very beautiful names, but where does she get those ideas from? She’s just way bright this Laura is

Oh yeah, and kudos to your mama for making her so very happy.

I don’t know where she got Laura but Noah tells me Cynthia is someone from Pokemon and Astrid is the name of a particularly adorable Ethiopian-born baby belonging to a friend (commenting here as Doris Day). I think that’s why her baby was also born in Africa.

She is just so precious. As are you!
