Madison says

We were talking about babies and being born and nursing this morning. Madison wanted to know why I don’t have milk in my breasts these days and wanted to know if Jessica nursed her and she was a little grouchy to hear no. Then we were talking about all the people we know who were adopted and I said, “You remember what adopted means, right?” (Because we haven’t used this term much.) And she said, “Yeah, it means Noah got to drink milk from your nipples.” And she felt grouchy and I felt sad.

  1. To be fair? I was pretty peeved/sad at/with my Mom when I found out that I wasn’t breastfed (as she was breastfeeding my younger brother). I told her she didn’t do it because she didn’t love me as much. (Wasn’t the case, obviously. Some health issues (she hemmorhaged after my birth and thus we were separated for a few days) and little bf-ing support were to blame.)

That said, this post still made me teary-eyed.

  2. Thanks for responding on LJ. I started at the screen for a long time and came up with something lame.

  3. I’m just not sure how you “unparticipate.” Honestly. It’s a bit mind-boggling.

  4. Well, we do have that mangled birth certificate. I COULD just tell Madison the whole adoption scenario is a bad dream she had and that she was born in my heart and say, “Oh, it’s not that bad!” if she ever says anything remotely negative. I think that works out really well for people.

  5. very touching post
I felt a pang for you both in that small moment shared
    I heart yr blog

  6. That must have felt really sad, particularly considering that you did want to try and relactate, but then it didn’t work out.

  7. Madison is awesome! She seems to be able to express what’s bugging her so well!
