Noah is very excited

One of the places we’re visiting is an amusement park and he just spent some time on the web site checking out the roller coasters and planning which ones he’ll want to ride. I’m a complete wimp when it comes to rides (I’m the hysterical person begging the controller to stop the damn thing and let me off before we all DIE) so it’ll be Brett forced to join him. Brett is afraid of heights and prone to nausea when being spun around but despite these issues he’s still a better bet than I am, which really speaks to what a scaredy-cat I can be.

Meagan clued me into the state tourist’s bureau and said they might be able to help set up the trip. Sure enough, the Ohio bureau was kind enough to promise their assistance. This will be world’s easier because I’d like to be able to talk to the spokespeople and make sure I’m not missing anything important. That was a load off my mind; setting it up was going to be the hardest part.

In other news it looks like we might get a new (to us) car tomorrow. Ours is having some major issues and we’ve had it in the shop twice. We also know that even if we can fix this particular issue that there are some other problems about to crop up (most specifically the timing belt) and so we’re thinking we’ll sell it to the dealer — not as a trade-in — and use the cash to pay off car payments for a year on another car. Seems like we do this every couple of years or so (I guess the Hyundai lasted us three). I’ll really miss the car; it’s been good to us.

I don’t know. Brett’s researching his options now in order to head to the car lot tomorrow. (The last two times we’ve bought cars from this particular lot and we like them and we’ve liked the cars we have.)

I guess we sort of buy disposable cars. Not too expensive, safe and running well, low payments (if any) and then we switch out and start again. It’s kinda like we’re renting from this lot because both times we’ve traded the car back in there, too.

I’ve run the numbers for this upcoming month (September) and what I’ll have to bill and it’ll be the first time since Brett came home where I’ll meet (and probably exceed) my goal, which is where I wanted to be by September. The challenge is that just because I’ll bill that in September doesn’t mean I’ll get it by November (or even December). Brett and I are getting very twitchy about finances, frankly. Having these car repairs hanging over our head was making us both nervous but it still seems counterintuitive to buy a new (to us) car than to keep our Hyundai. But we ran the numbers and it makes better financial sense. Go figure.

In any case, it looks like September will be a good month and one hopes that October will be even better and that by January we’ll be in a nice routine where the invoices will have caught up with our bills. Meanwhile we’ll be eating a lot of beans and rice. What else can you do?

I keep meaning to write more about where things are work-wise and how they’re different from when I started but that’ll have to keep until tomorrow.

  1. I don’t know if this works in your industry but when Hubby worked for himself, he offered a 1% discount if the invoice was paid before 30days and a fine if paid after 35 days.

  2. You are doing it, sister. It’ll keep coming too, you’ll see. Way to go. You guys should be really proud!

  3. Buster LOVES roller coasters. He obsesses over them. His favorite video game for years was RollerCoaster Tycoon. His dad likes them too, or is at least indulgent about them, one thing I am grateful for in him. I never had to go to those parks when he was growing up. I can’t stand them now.

I have fond memories of the parks around Cleveland. In my teens we went to them a lot. I liked roller coasters back then, before I had children. Somehow being pregnant forever changed how my stomach handles those rides.

It sounds like your vacation is going to be in my old stomping grounds. Fall is the perfect time to visit!

  4. Take me next time. I love rollercoasters! MD hates them, but I think Jamie is going to take after me with his love of speed and wind.

  5. Non-drowsy dramamine will change Brett’s life. Mallory used to get nausea and now she pops a dramamine and joins the rest of us roller coaster queens. Tell him to close his eyes on the heights, thats what I do.

  6. It’ll never work. Brett won’t take an ibuprofen for a pulled muscle, fever or headache. He’s weird like that.
