Quietly Mothering is doing a survey on putative father registries. Can you help her out?
And Copyscape can tell you if someone’s copying your blog somewhere out on the internets.
Finally, tagged by Anti-Racist Parent! The meme below the cut!
1. I am:
Russian-Jewish peasant stock (dad) and German-rooted working class (mom). White.
2. My kids are:
Noah: Some of me, some of Brett who is also white and anglo-saxon white through and through.
Madison: We don’t know her dad’s side but her mom’s people, on both sides, were long-time residents of New Orleans. (Some of them left in the 80s and some of them left after Katrina.) They have a French last name and were/are culturally (and some religiously) Catholic. Madison is African American/white. (I can’t tell anything about her dad’s genealogy based on his name but I know that he’s white.)
3. I first started thinking more about race, culture, and identity when:
A little bit when I hit college but I really started thinking on it when I started working at the YWCA. I’d also switched my major from English to Sociology, which contributed to my progress. A
4. People think my name is:
Jewish. (This is one of many reasons I didn’t change it.)
5. The family tradition I most want to pass on is:
Our noise and humor. (Ok, that’s two traits but getting together and being loud and funny is our best tradition.)
6. The family tradition I least want to pass on is:
Alcoholism runs pretty rampant on one side of our family.
7. My child’s first word in English was:
Noah: fan
Madison: star
8. My child’s first non-English word was:
Noah speaks some Hebrew. Madison is, like her mother and father before her, mono-lingual.
9. The non-English word/phrase most used in my home is:
Schmutz.
10. One thing I love about being a parent is:
Hanging with these two little people who are pretty damn entertaining.
11. One thing I hate about being a parent is:
Divided attention.
12. To me, being an anti-racist parent means:
I like what Carmen said: “It means that I never stop working on myself. I want to keep reading, writing, learning, and reflecting so that I can be the best role-model and influence I can be to my future children.” And it means never being afraid to admit that I don’t know what the hell I’m talking about but I’d sure like to learn.

This is such an interesting meme. I love learning more about your family history. Your kid’s first words are too funny!
