You know those days

It’s just one of those days. I talked to a woman this week who has successfully built her own small business that takes in not-small profits. She’s amazing. And then a professional relationship went sour for personal reasons and suddenly she’s scrambling.

It reminded me of when I was in second or third grade and I fell down and skinned my knee badly. I remember sitting on the sidewalk looking at my bloody knee and thinking, “Oh god, a lifetime of skinned knees ahead of me.” I felt very very tired. Peremptorily tired. That’s a little how I feel today.

Sometimes I wonder if I’m ambitious enough to do this. I’m reading a lot about the business side of business, self-educating in areas I know very little about. Through all of these books is a strong vein of ambition — money, approval, promotions. Bigger, better, more.

I realize that I only look ambitious next to my slacker friends like L, L and L. In the real world, I’m a slacker, too. Or maybe I just haven’t figured out how to put my own spin on ambition.

When I think about what I want out of life it’s: time with my family, our continued good health, the ability to get and keep our house in shape and all of us clothed and fed. The luxuries I want — vacations, nice cars, etc. — are still pretty modest. I’d love to go back to being a two-car family (especially when we have to juggle my business meetings around Noah’s baseball schedule) and I’d like to be able to do more weekends away together. (I’m typing this to figure it out.) I think from growing up at sales conventions that I’m scared of what success looks like. So I think I need new role models for success and so far I’m not finding them in the books I’m reading. (I need to read these books to up my skills.)

Oh well. I’m working it out.

Why not look into some coaching? There are tons of good coaches who need to complete their hours to get their certificates so they charge almost nothing.

A life coach could help you sort through your goals and have some clear steps to take. Coaching works. It works for vocals and it works for life.
