Goldenrod

That’s the color we’re painting our bedroom. Two reasons: Great feng shui (gold in our financial well-being corner) and also it matches the springish green we painted at the end of the hall. It’s not quite avocado green — not in the old guacamole sense — it’s more the color of a not-quite-ripe avocado, near the pit, right before it shades into yellow. With the golden rod it’ll be a tribute to the seventies, which after all feel like home to us.

(I can’t quite get to work yet because the sun is hitting my eyes so I have to duck to write and also I’ve only had one cup of coffee. I’m waiting for the sun to move and for the caffeine to kick in.)

Here’s the bad thing about making my own money. I can’t stop thinking, “Where’s my next job? Where’s my next job? Where’s my next job?” I’ve got plenty of work to keep me busy but nothing new to bill so it feels like I should be hitting the pavement.

(I wish the sun would hurry up and move — I want to get down to business.)

It’s going to be hot today so we already broke out the wading pools. Madison is wearing her new SPF swimsuit from Target. She has two — one that used to be Noah’s in dark navy and this new one in pink. She will have you know that she prefers the pink one. She looks darling in it, too. Noah woke up grouchy and immediately started trying to pick fights.

They were going to watch Holes on the last day of religious school but he isn’t allowed to see most based-on-book movies (with the exception of Pollyanna) until he’s read the book so he read it a few days before and of course loved it. I thought the movie did a nice job transferring the story; I was pleasantly surprised.

Louis Sachar’s books are always pretty anti-authoritarian (other than the sympathetic school counselors and his wife, of course, is or was a school counselor) so I’m always amused when authoritarian types recommend them. Kinda like when we all had to read Catcher in the Rye in high school.
