The horror! The horror!
Poor Madison. Noah and I were helping her clean her room (i.e. we cleaned while she went, “There’s my shakey egg! There’s my stethoscope!”) and after awhile she sat down with her doll, Bitsy Baby, with the newly found doll brush. She was singing to herself at her little table and chairs, brushing Bitsy Baby’s hair and chatting with Baby Baby who was lying on the table after her own round with the brush (despite being bald) when suddenly Bitsy Baby’s hair came off. Madison came screaming across the room after throwing Bitsy one way and Bitsy’s wig another. Her hands were up on her face like Kevin from Home Alone. I felt so bad for her.
I told her it wasn’t her fault, that Bitsy wasn’t broken, that I would fix her and cuddled her while she cried. (I had Noah hustle the maimed doll out. “That freaked me out!” he said.) Then I showed her that her other two dolls (Baby April and her little sister — that link will expire when the auction does and its a great doll if you’re looking for a cute little girl doll for any small children in your life) have rooted hair so their hair won’t come flying off when you comb it. But she was still sad so I ended up getting down this doll, which I’ve had in preparation for a some-day daughter (or granddaughter) and set aside for when Madison was older. She has long, long glossy straight hair so Madison is very happy to be sitting on the couch brushing it for hours.
But I don’t know if her love for Bitsy Baby is going to survive this awful incident.
Have you ever read the Thorn Birds? There is a scene in which that precise thing happens.
[...] I forgot until just now. Dawn was writing about dolls and had links to eBay, which made me search for a black CPK on eBay. There are a few older ones… some as old as 1981 (you know, that glorious year, 26 years ago, when someone very cool was born)! So, I pulled up the Cabbage Patch Kid website… and proceeded to vomit. I had forgotten about N’s post until I looked at the website with the word adoption eveeeeeeeerywhere. Oh, really, it was too much. But I kept looking. [...]
How upsetting! I hope she recovers quickly.
Madison alone is a topic for a book!! She’s wonderful and funny and dramatic and disarmingly pretty.
Oh poor Bitsy Baby! Poor Madison! I would have had nightmares too. Nice recovery though mom!
