One more thing about my competition
They only take blogs that meet a certain traffic/page rank criteria. I’ll happily take the rejects. Their goal is to help companies increase their search engine placement (one of the founders is a search engine optimization guru). My idea is about getting real people talking to their virtual and in real life communities about new products. I think that PR people have different goals and there’s room for both — but can I convince bloggers of that? Are they going to look and think I’m pocketing the money for placement? (The other site pays pretty well — I’ll send you the link if you want it because I have no problem with people working with them and me both.) But it’s a different business model. I don’t get paid per order. I’m going to charge a flat fee to access the database (a relatively low fee).

Dawn, I would think that there’d be enough room for both models. Not only wouldn’t I qualify to participate in the other one, but it wouldn’t be my kind of thing. I’ll bet you’ll get lots of bloggers with a similar sentiment.
Hope it works out for you.
stick with it. your idea appeals to me much more than getting paid for it. sure- money’s nice. but i can’t give an accurate review of something and get paid for doing it. yours is like the grassroots version. it sounds like there is a different market out there than the one the other company is aiming for.
i’ll offer you free ad space on my blog. google ads suck. two cents after a month? huh.
I tried to sign up for yours a few weeks back but realised that it was US only for the time being (I am UK based). I would do it your way but not paid per post - it turns it into quite a different thing - more of an advert, less of a blog I think.
And even though they say they don’t require positive reviews - would they really use you again if you didn’t give one? I am not sure at all.
Oh, and I only started keeping a blog a few months back (principally to chart my personal journey through trying to get pregnant, and then, hopefully, pregnancy and parenthood - not very sexy stuff in blog terms) so my traffic isn’t anything like what would be required to interest the other guy. There must be thousands upon thousands of people like me.
Hope this helps.
why would you give up because there is competition? the other guy hasn’t made any money yet, so it remains to be seen if either model works. if yours does, then you will have even more competition…so build a great service.
Okay, here are a bunch of dumb questions, bear with me–would it be helpful if I posted a link to your site on the other sites I visit, the special needs ones? There are lots of moms there with blogs, and with typical kids too. I never thought of this because I just never thought of it. What would I need to tell them, assuming this is a good idea?
If any of you want to promote Get Them Blogging! (and I would be THRILLED to get a hand!) you can say that it’s a service to connect PR/marketing people to bloggers to get product and service reviews. Bloggers answer a detailed questionnaire and then we put them in our database. Big bloggers, smaller bloggers — we are happy to have them all because we know that behind every blogger is a real live person with real influence! There’s a detailed FAQ on http://www.getthemblogging.com or people can contact me throught hat site with questions.
Ah, I see I should have finished reading before posting my comment on that other post - but then I would never have got back there! I’ll use this para and post on my blog.
