Cecily and Dawn have both said this situation with this particular father is less than ideal, cloudscome. However, we still need to protect the rights of the many, and not just trample them because of a few.

Maybe this is changing the subject, but did I miss the part of the conversation where we talked about the possiblity that there is a father here who stepped up? Hypothetically, I mean, because we don't know the acutal situation over at Cecily's blog, but fathers usually get slammed for disappearing . Here is one who said no I'm not signing away my rights - I'm the baby's father. Leaving aside the possiblity that he is scum, it's kinda nice to hear a father saying that. I can say this because I wanted to hate my baby's father and I didn't go through with an adoption because he refused to agree to it. So in a weird twist of grace I got to raise my son because he was such a stubbonr bastard. Sometimes it works out like that and it's a good thing. Grace being the opperative word.

I agree with you that laws and such should not be set by these wrenching situations.

However, I do think there should be room for people to be honest about how they feel without being shamed for it.

If this is a shitty situation, then that's what it is, A shitty situation. And while I am very sorry for the people involved, you're right. It's not the situation to make policy on or the situation to prove a point. It just is. And this: "There are general truths about adoption and then there are specific truths about every individual adoption. Parents who consider adoption are given the same rights as parents NOT considering adoption. That means that some parents (who considered adoption or not) are going to be awesome and amazing and that some parents (who considered adoption or not) are going to be bloody awful." Yes. Exactly. I really hate the idea that just because a parent has considered adoption, it automatically puts them in a box, and the only way out with some dignity is to go through with the adoption.
