Madison’s photo album

Since Madison asked about being in my uterus, she’s been all about the photo album of her early days. Her favorite pages are the one where she has on the pumpkin jammies for Halloween and the one of the cake my mom got us on the day she came home. It is, I’ll admit, a good-looking cake.

This morning she went and got the album to read to Brett and me while we were still in bed, pretending to be asleep.

“Hey guys,” she said, climbing over us. “Hey, you want me to read you a story? Ok. Once on a time there was little baby Mommy. She wanted to play with baby Madison but she couldn’t. Yes she did! There you are [pointing to a picture of me with her in the sling], there is little baby Mommy holding baby Madison in the sling.”

She does it this way because when we were looking at it I would say, “There’s little baby Madison riding in the sling!” And she very nicely wants to tell it to me the same way.

Noah loved his photo album at this age, too. I remember having a tiny version to cart around in the diaper bag because he liked looking at it so much. I think I’ll make a smaller version for her, too, but she’s more careful than he was so having the big one out for her is fine so far.

It seems like it took Noah so long to become 2.5 and her early days are sure flying by. With Noah I felt bitter nostalgia with every turn of the calendar; I felt so sad to see him growing up. With her I don’t feel that way because I know it just gets better and better. That’s not to say that I won’t miss toddler Madison (or that I don’t miss the butterball baby she used to be) but just that she’s such a joy and I can’t wait to see the person she becomes in full flower.

We’re having a good time.

And yes, it does keep getting better and better. Although there is also much to miss.

  2. I know that feeling of bitter-sweet. We are getting that too with Baby R. The time just flies so fast.

  3. So sweet. My daughter loves looking at photo albums, too.

  4. And it does just get better and better.

I miss those baby, toddler, elementary school, middle school days. But two kids on the brink of adulthood is pretty darned cool. I love that, too.
