And now a good review

I’m a fan of John Lithgow and have been since The World According to Garp where he played Roberta, the post-op male to female transexual and former football star. Could anyone else have played that role with such dignity? I don’t think so.
My kids are fans, too, Noah especially. He used to have Singin’ in the Bathtub on heavy rotation. I’m a fan of kids’ music — I’m not one of those snobby parents who won’t deign to have Raffi in the house — and this is really good kid’s music. His limited range means any parent with some moxie can sing along and his choice of standards means that you’ll know at least some of the words.
Anyway, PR folks contact me now and then and sometimes I say yes and most times I say no and sometimes I say yes and then am not inspired enough to talk about (The Producers lost too much jumping to the screen) but John Lithgow, well, he’s worth talking about.
So he’s got a new album out and it’s as fun as his first two. This one has a bonus — the inclusion of a sample of his new show Palooza, which is some kind of video on demand dealie that frankly, confuses me. (Although if you click the link you’ll see the happy news that John’s been cast in Dreamgirls, as if I needed another reason to have that on my must-see list!) I haven’t watched it because I haven’t been able to wrench the CD away from the kids long enough to stick it in the computer. Madison is ALL INTO the CD and she couldn’t care less if there’s a tv show she’s missing on there.
In short: John Lithgow is good stuff. His albums are good stuff. Go check out some some samples and see if wacky standards make you happy. (Bonus! Madeleine Peyroux duet!) And our favorite song? “Song of the Sewer” with Wayne Knight a.k.a. Newman on Seinfield.

I’d still love to know how children from non-traditional (as in “not genetically related”) surrogacy view the whole primal wound thing. But I guess it’ll take a while for them to be old enough to really have a voice ….
