“Chicken pops”
That’s what we called chicken pox when we were kids but then you probably did, too, so likely I didn’t need to tell you that. Well, Noah has ‘em. They broke our yesterday and they’re in full-force (mostly — just beginning to spread from his torso) today. This is a good thing since we were hoping to avoid the shot but a bad thing as it kind of puts a crimp in our plans. Then again, is there ever a good time to get them??
I’m thinking that Madison might still be scabby for her birthday pics or at least a bit ravaged. We’ll see though.
So far Noah is being very stoic (of course they haven’t started to itch yet) and he’s glad that we’ve temporarily lifted the “no television” ban in honor of his illness. To him that’s all worth it.

Oh Bummer for your plans! I have no chicken pox advice beyond the suggestion that ice cream never hurt anyone.
You missed a great weekend at my house. Pics are up on the blog if you are interested. See you soon!
as a two time pox survivor….i’ve got a boatload of sympathy! poor kiddos!
Caladryl. Buy it. Use it. Love it. I had a horrid case of the pox as a child and I still remember that muted pink bottle fondly.
Poor guy, as a Chicken Pop survivor I truly feel for him. I too remember Caladryl all over my body as I lay on a sheet. It didn’t do much for the ones interally, yes I had em bad. There is a family picture of the three kids all with chicken pox. I know we drove my mother crazy trying to keep us from scratching. My heart goes out to all of you.
So what’s the deal with the shot, anyway?
Nat is scheduled to get it next week, and I asked the doctor about it–I said, don’t they still get it anyway? and she would just say when they do get it after the shot, it’s a less virulent case.
How come she wants us to get it now if Noah and Madison didn’t have one yet?
Tell me, Dawn, I know you know my doctor’s mind!
har har.
Sorry, and much ice cream and t.v. to your kidlets.
Hope the kids are able to get through it with minimal levels of misery. All three of mine had it and oatmeal baths were their friends. Also, I don’t know if you’re so inclined, but I gave the two older ones (Dylan was still an infant) Benadryl before bed to help them sleep.
Good luck!
Er…wanted to make it clear that the Benadryl to help them sleep was only to minimize the itching that long, not trying to drug them into sleeping. LOL
