Middle of the Week

As I’ve mentioned, Madison is all about sitting on chairs. The part that’s hard about this is that it means she’s crawling up onto the kitchen chairs and the patio chairs a lot, which is worrisome because she’s not that great at it yet. So at least once a day she’s got a boo-boo from slipping off of one and part of me wants to say, “That’s it! No more chairs for you, little Miss!” but most of me knows if I just get through it she’ll come out of it better at climbing and also less interested. Meanwhile, chairs, damn them.

We’re meeting the neighbors and outing ourselves as homeschoolers. Often the next question is, “Oh, so is that through your church?” Actually, I say, we go to a synagogue. My won’t they be surprised when they see the Christmas lights go up in December! Complicated lives are more interesting to live but tiresome to keep explaining. And that’s not even getting to the friendly but probing, “Your daughter certainly has awfully curly hair!”

But so far people seem nice and welcoming. We’ve confirmed that there ARE troublesome teenagers on the next block and so we’ve decided Noah can’t go to the taunting park by himself. He was mad at first but we told him until we felt like we had a handle on what was going on, we felt it’d be best. I’m looking forward to getting a fence up (waiting on a check, of course) so that Peanut can be out and running back there but also so we can put on this trolley thing. You know, one of those things you string between trees and the kids go zipping down the line? That’ll keep him busy for awhile.

We raked yesterday (as you can see) and I spent a lot of time putting out small fires at work. I was looking forward to having two hours to focus while Noah is at class today but then remembered that Brett promised to take some stuff we were storing over to J and since he’s taking the van I’ll need to watch Madison. There goes that time. And we’ll be running today and tomorrow — maybe I’ll just stay up late tonight.

Oh and Noah began decorating for Halloween yesterday, too. I was going to make him hold off until October but he forgot his booster seat in the van yesterday and had to miss self-defense so I got out the decorations early to cheer him up.

A boring entry all the way around but the pic is cute.

  1. Hey, your formatting is messed up.

  2. Boring? NO!
These are so many of the details of my own life!
Amber is right, the formatting isn’t kind of odd.

  3. I love reading your blog for the kid stuff.

I remember back when the big teenagers were troubling-looking, when my 2 boys were Noah-sized. Now my guys are 19 & 22 and I look at the tough teens around here and beam at them and think, aww, bless their sweet, innocent little tattooed and pierced hearts! It’s all in the perspective.

  4. (Oh–clarification–my sons aren’t tough-looking guys, but they had a few friends who affected a tough attitude and talk, but who were just sweeties inside. Big babys with lots of angst and need.

(And yeah, I’d have kept mine away from a park where tough-acting older kids hung out, too.)

  5. The picture is adoreable. It reminds me of how much I miss Fall. It was always my favorite season. What form of self defence is Noah taking? It is one of three things we want our children to know, the others being swimming and horseback riding. We’ve gotten looks of disbelief that we want our kids to learn so many things, besides school work.

  6. Great photo! We haven’t had quite enough leaves fall yet for a major raking, but it’s always a blast for the kids when we do it.
