More on being proactive
Even the fug girls are setting aside gossip to heed the call!
Drublood asks, “What are you doing?” Keep the meme alive! Of course it feels like we can’t do enough but we can do something! So state it here or state it at your blog with a trackback because seeing how we’re coming together — that makes a difference. I’m heartened by your actions! Let’s inspire each other!
What I’m doing is below the cut.
–I’m giving blood at our synagogue’s annual drive next weekend.
–I’m sending a shout out to Beanmom who sent me a bunch of beautiful clothes for the mere cost of shipping and I’m sending ‘em straight back out (not without a sigh for the pretty stripey pants) to those who need ‘em.
–I may be cash-poor but I’m not cash-poverty stricken so I added tampons, pads, diapers, toothbrushes and razors to my grocery cart on my way to get fixin’s for pasta salad tonight.
–I’m praying hard.
By the way, J has heard from her dad’s side of the family and they are safe (thank god). We are still waiting on her mom’s side.

I gave money. I’m going to donate all my change in the coinstar machine. My Geo is heading out on a working crew on Sunday. I think I’ll buy some personal care items too once I get paid.
Once we get back from our weekend, I am sending a bunch of clothes that were headed to Goodwill. I will also buy supplies for women and children: i.e., diapers, pads, tampons, deodorant, shampoo, soap.
I gave money. I’m giving blood tomorrow. I’m leafleting my neighborhood to get donations for Hurricane Aid, which I will pay to ship to Texas (thanks for the heads up on that resource, btw). I’m cussing out the president every time he appears on my tv. And I’m writing a letter to my US Senators to tell them to vote against cutting the estate tax (or any other taxes) until the extent of this whole mess gets sorted out.
I packed up two huge boxes of baby clothes, blankets, and small stuffed animals today and sent them to the Astrodome. Threw in a baby sling and my Maya Wrap, which I never learned to use anyway. It was the only thing I felt good about all week.
I’m giving money. I’ve just written letters to both my senators. I’ll remind myself to give money again in a month (big old notes on the calendar). I’m waiting to figure out what needs to be done in two months (besides give more money) because if this is our emergency plan when Something Bad Happens, we are in Big Heaps Of Trouble.
(I’d give blood except I lived in the UK for too long at the wrong time, and they won’t take it anymore. I’d send stuff except it’s just as easy for me to write the check. And I feel guilty for finding getting to the shipping center so overwhelming.)
Realy good site!
