Just some updates
This is the cutest thing Madison is doing lately. If she hits her head on, say, a table she not only wants comfort for the bump on her head, she also wants to discuss the horror of the head bumping itself. She’s not satisfied until we’ve gone to the place where the injury occurred and given her a narration of the event, following her hand gestures.
She puts her hand to her head then points to the table, babbling the whole time.
“You hit your head? On the table? How awful!” we commiserate.
“Boo-boo!” she wails. “Dat!” hitting the table again.
I just love how she already wants to tell her stories even though she doesn’t have the words.
Petrie, the albino leopard gecko, is finally and truly dying. We have been running around trying to figure out what it is and apparently it’s a diagnosed-too-late intestinal blockage (common for geckos) caused by parasites. I’m pretty much over my anger that the professionals we saw first didn’t figure it out but what can you do? We are trying to make him comfortable and shaking the cage now and then to see if he’s truly gone or still barely with us. Noah has pretty much processed his grief (we got the diagnosis some time ago) and now he’s saying he wants a chameleon. I don’t think so. He may be recovered but I’m not. (Neither is Brett — I think Brett has had the most trauma about this; he feels really guilty.)

Sorry about Petrie -I wouldn’t be in a hurry to get another critter either in this case.
So says the woman with three dogs, a guinea pig and a cockatiel (sigh).
Loved the story about Madison though. It’s cute and there was also the nostalgia factor - I remember when…that unexpected wave of lovely memory.
Thanks for that.
I have been thinking about your posts on “moving”-even have a post in the works on it -
What a cutie pie! Elle (age 3) did this early on as well. I always compared her to those really bad “re-enactments” on those crime shows on A&E. lol lol lol
Sorry about the gecko. We had some lizard trauma with Natalie (age 9) a couple of years ago and I too said NEVER AGAIN. It really is awful.
Oh poor gecko! We have a betta fish and a couple of weeks ago it got something called popeye, where one eye swells up and looks horrific. I called the vet and his response? FLUSH IT!!! I was so upset and I kept thinking about this poor fish suffering! I finally (after 2 weeks) found a medicine at a pet store and now he is better, but honestly, if he dies, I don’t think I’ll get another fish. Too much guilt.
Also, when I was little, my cousin fell and hit her head fairly badly, so to console her my mom walked around the mall (where she fell) kicking garbage cans and chairs over, to distract her and saying “Bad chair, bad table” etc. It was hysterical, and my cousin would do that for the next few years. So cute! Destructive, but cute!
i love those stories about the cute things kids do. she is a gem.
my girls did that too! they would even re-enact things that happened to the other kid! we had a nice long period of it since my girls were late-talkers.
Shayna punim!
Poor petrie!
But Madison sure is a dear.
Oh
Poor Petrie! My condolences to Noah and family.
Yup, Madison is really darling!
Aw, so sorry abut Petrie.
Lila does the exact same thing when she gets hurt. That photo rocks. She’s got so much presence, you know?
Your daughter is so cute. So so cute.
I’m sorry about your pet.
Sad pet stories—ugh.
Hi,
I just stumbled across your site. I was looking for sites about african american hair care. I read some of your blog concerning Madison and the care of her hair. I just wanted to say she is precious, and has very beautiful hair. Two sites with a lot of info on hair care are nappturality.com and longhaircareforum.com in case you are not familiar with them. Madison is lovely. Noah is very handsome. We homeschooled for 5 years. I miss it.
