A mundane entry

Madison had a couple of firsts this week. Her first merry-go-round ride and her first toddler-attack bite. The other mother was mortified but really, he was just protecting his turf. Well, his sippy cup anyway. What is it with toddlers and the fascination with other sippy cups?
The weather has been lovely here and we’ve been spending as much time outside as we can, trying to soak up the cool sunshine before the heat and humidity step back in. The pictures are of Noah and Madison swinging around the clothes line. They spin around together and then he goes faster so that he slides into her and she laughs like a maniac. In the second and last pic, if you enlarge them, you can see how much she’s enjoying herself.
Madison would always rather be outside than inside, just like when she was a teensy baby and the only thing that would make her stop crying was a walk around (and around) the backyard. Now she stands at the backdoor and says, “Ou-sie! Ou-sie!” Obviously, that’s baby talk for outside. In the morning, she stands up in our bed to look out the window at the backyard and she names her toys, “How, Tar, Boe!” which is house, car, boat. “Tees!” she’ll add gleefully, because she loves trees.
Problem is, she’s still a mouthy little toddler so she’ll put everything she finds into her mouth. Not just sticks and rocks but also the wild strawberries that dot our lawn. I’m realizing that the clothes line isn’t going to see much action this summer (at least laundry action because you can see the kids are giving it a work-out) because I can’t let her be unsupervised for a minute. We also have occasional toadstools and I’m terrified that she’ll eat one of those or find some strange berry. There’s no way I could hang a load of laundry with her playing at my feet now but maybe next year.

Toddlers are so funny! Threaten their sippy cup and this primal urge takes over. “Teeth work!” the lizard brain chimes in and biting commences. Having been on both sides of the biting thing, I think I always felt the most sorry for the mother who’s little darling was terrorizing other kids in the sand pit.

Ben and Sophia had their first merry-go-round ride this week, too.

I love her chubby little arms! What a sweetheart! Noah is the best big brother!
