Madison refused to smile. She glared at the photographer instead but she looked chubbiliciously adorable anyway and J. was able to find several poses that she liked.
We hung out for the afternoon — going to lunch and getting Madison’s feet measured. (She’s a whopping 6.5 USA/23 Euro!) J. and I talked more about the summer visit and how we were going to do it. We think we’ll fly out together and although I’m nervous about that much togetherness (being a grouchy traveller anyway), I could use the help. J. is nervous, too, but more about her crazy family. But what family isn’t crazy??? And she’s afraid there will be awkward moments. I assured her that there certainly will be and that we’ll just have to deal with it.
Noah was very helpful and I asked him later if he liked herding the baby and he looked at me, horrified. He thought I was asking if he liked hurting the baby. You know, the real reason I homeschool the kid is that he’s so damn useful. He fetches. He carries. And he herds the baby and does not hurt her. Oh and he also checks out the groceries on the self-scanners while I bag. Pretty cool, eh?

mmmmmm “chubbiliciously adorable” once again you manage to bring a silver lining to a bah humbug day.
Thank you Dawn. Your stories of Madison and Noah keep things in perspective for me.
Older siblings rock. Natalie is such a help (she’s 6 years older than Elle). I honestly don’t know what I’d do without her, sometimes. And I don’t even have to ask, most times. This morning she fixed us all our bowls of cereal. Be still my heart.
