My sister is having…
… a girl! I’m so excited that I had to post! As anyone who watches her auctions knows, my sister is a girly-girl. Not ribbons and lace girly, more sparkles and sequins girly. She said that if she wasn’t having a girl, then she would have to have a drag queen and we all thought that it would probably just be easier on everyone for her to have a daughter.
I am so damn excited! In fact, I’m more excited to find out that Erica’s having a girl than I was when I found out that J. was having a girl!
You all know that I did have a slight preference for a girl-child owing to the whole “I’m Jewish but don’t circumcise” issue. I didn’t want to get into it again with my rabbi when we went to convert the baby. Also the clothes are cute but then they only let you dress them for a couple of years anyway. In short I don’t totally identify with women who have a strong preference one way or the other but I know it’s a very real thing and I appreciate how compelling it can be.
Erica badly wanted a daughter. She would have absolutely embraced another son, too, of course but she said that if she didn’t have a girl, she would always feel that someone was missing from her life. I’m glad that hole will be filled for her.
Ok. So finding out about my upcoming niece was worth an entry!
Also, I may have mentioned before that we started a tradition when Noah was teensy of taking his picture with our two big raggedy dolls periodically. For the first year, we took one every three months. Now we take one on each birthday; it’s a nice way to see how he’s grown. Here is Madison’s three month shot.
I can’t believe how fortunate we are to have her in our family. Look at her — she’s beautiful and healthy and strong. How did we get so damn lucky? And look at her big feet! She’s going to be tall!

That picture is so sweet!! Thank you for sharing and congrats to your sister.
Sarah
She’s beautiful!
At 34 I still have the Raggedy Ann that my mother made for me when I was close to Madison’s age! It always makes me think of her…
Hey, congratulations to your sister!
She’s really big now! Beautiful baby!
She’s gorgeous!! She makes me drool! Congrats to your sister and wishing a safe arrival for Madison’s cousin!
Yeah! More squishy babies!
I was just saying to my bf today - the best kisses in the world are the ones stolen from the cheeks of chubby babies.
Says the woman who can’t stop kissing her son’s cheek, even when he giggles at me.
Best of luck to her.
Oh Dawn, she’s gorgeous! I just want to blow on those adorable cheeks. (And Maya likes the dolls)
Congratulations, Erica!!!
Congratulations to Erica and the family!
And Madison is just gorgeous, and getting so big too.
Just checked in on your blog today after knowing it wasn’t being updated — must have gotten the vibe
OMG I just read on the Naked Ovary what your SIL announced about her new baby girl being the first ‘blood’ daughter! That is the most appallign thing I have read in a long time in blog land. She needs a SERIOUS smack down. What an utterly insensitive bitch.
I love the look she has on her face…. so serious and just reaks of girl…
“okay mom, hurry up, I’ve got stuff to do here.”
Great picture!
