Turning my head

Yesterday I woke up and both my hands were numb from sleeping wrong on my pillow. It made for an unhappy day and I know that I need to get back to the acupuncturist soon. Lastnight Brett bought me a new pillow and when I woke up this morning, I was a little afraid to move because I felt so good. Now my whole upper back feels ripped, like I’ve been lifting weights too much.

I got whiplash when an oncoming driver turned left illegally right in front of me at an intersection. I was about 18, I think, and when the insurance company came to me with $1000 check for my pain and suffering, I happily took it. Next time, I’d get a lawyer. I spent the thousand dollars on a really nice Cannondale racing bike and thought the insurance company had been more than generous, figuring the slight ache in my neck would heal up soon. Oh well. Such is life.

I’m making some headway on the essay and getting my sources lined up for the other two articles. I was getting nervous about them last night and them remembered that I always get nervous about articles before I write them so that helped ease some of my tension. I haven’t done any freelance work for a few months and I guess I’m a little out of practice. I will say though that it’s easier now because of some things I learned at my regular job. It was much more simple to get expert sources, for example, because I happened to get a couple of review books that didn’t relate to my ePreg job at all but were perfect for these two articles. Now I know why the PR people sent them to me; I’m likely not the only editor who moonlights.

Also, note to other writers: when you quote an expert who’s written a book, contact the PR department of their publishing house to get high-resolution pictures of the book cover. Then you can give them to your editor if s/he needs them. Same goes for any products you mention. Editors like that and it makes you look even more professional.

  2. It’s nice to know someone else gets nervous about writing their articles. :-)
