Happy Thanksgiving!
So the current #1 name is (and remember, no critical comments, please, we’re sharing but not asking for opinions) is Henry. I like it, Noah likes it after Henry Huggins (he’s the one who came up with it) and Brett likes it. I want Noah to have a big hand in naming the baby so him liking Henry makes it my top choice, too.
If this match doesn’t come through and we get another one and are matched with a baby girl, our top girl’s name is Evelyn. We also like Charlotte but Evelyn is the one we keep coming back to. It would honor Brett’s grandmother.
These could all change. We are nothing if not flexible but even my mom likes Henry and she doesn’t like Charlie, our former favorite, because I have an ex named Charlie and my mom absolutely despised him. She said she couldn’t get that out of her head, which is funny considering that was seventy-odd million years ago. But then again, he was considerably not nice. I probably wasn’t nice either but I’ve conveniently forgotten that. Anyway, I’m not crazy about Charles but I think Charlie is cute for a little boy. Henry is cute, too. As is Simon. I’ll run with Henry.
The other names I loved but which Brett rejected include Tadeusz and Milosz. The boys have the same last name, as will our next child, which is not mine. It has “sh” in it so Tadeusz and Milosz wouldn’t work even if I could convince Brett to use them. It would sound like you were talking with your mouth full to say the whole name. Also Brett’s last name is horribly WASPy and goes poorly with anything that breathes ethnicity.
I like Elliot (Brett does, too, but can’t stop doing E.T. imitations) and Linus (my sister, who’s own son is named Flaviano, cannot stomach that).
Aren’t names fun?

I think you should name the baby “Henry” even if she’s a girl. Really. It would be cool.
Yay! I *LOVE* the name Henry.
It’s my #1 for my maybe someday son.
I like Henry.
Evelyn is in my current top three.
Henry is cute! I love Linus. (Matt wouldn’t even consider it though.)
Henry is such a pretty sounding name — like Thomas (a name I love). Good work to Noah (also a wonderful name).
I like the name Henry. I think it goes well with the name Noah, but then almost anything goes well with the name Noah
I like Charlotte for a girl (twas my Grandmother’s name, and on my list…plus Lottie is a cute nickname, imho) but once we got into that Old Testament name theme with Noah (who is Noah Joshua, no less), we had to stick with it. Talking baby names is so much fun!
I have a favorite uncle named Henri (short for Henrique). Love the name and the person. I second the motion to stick with Henry if you have a girl.
When my sister-in-law was pregnant with her first son, she wouldn’t tell anyone the names she was considering for fear of being pummelled with unsolicited advice.
Which of course made us wonder exactly what wack-ass names she was going to inflict on this poor helpless child.
Oh, the controversy was fierce when the baby was born — she’d named him David Paul, after my father and brother.
Duh.
(I adored Henry Huggins. But I think if you’re ever matched with a girl, Beezus is truly the only way to go.)
I love the name Henry. It was one of the names Scott and I discussed, but he would insist on calling the boy Hank, which I *don’t* like. Since we couldn’t agree on that, Henry was scratched.
