The Gender Genie Inspired by an article in The New York Times Magazine, the Gender Genie uses a simplified version of an algorithm developed by Moshe Koppel, Bar-Ilan University in Israel, and Shlomo Argamon, Illinois Institute of Technology, to predict the gender of an author.

Hmm. I’m a boy too.
My niece and I noticed that when we write something in the manner we would use for a school or professional paper, it thinks we’re boys, but when we write something in the manner we would chat with a friend, it thinks we’re girls.
I tried pasting in emails I’ve received from friends, and it got all of the genders right except for one male friend. He is one of those guys who doesn’t mind talking about his feelings, etc., though.
I also tried some passages from different authors, and it thought Shakespeare and Edgar Allan Poe were both female as well…
I just checked out 6 or 7 different blog posts and it came out male every time but once.
