I washed all of the baby clothes and all of the diapers, too. I’ve been collecting used cloth diapers from second-hand stores ever since Noah was in them and then a friend of mine who also likes to check out various kinds (only she buys ‘em brand new) gave me her son’s outgrown diapers. This baby is gonna have an awesome cloth diaper collection.

For Noah we had mere prefolds. Diaper service quality, of course, but nothing fancy. Our covers were generally diaperraps. We discovered Stacinator polarfleece covers just before Noah potty trained and I’ll admit that I lamented all the time we could have enjoyed them if only the cloth craze had been more prevalent when we first started our diapering career.

Now I’ve got prefolds (hemp, cotton, flannel and terry varieties); I’ve got all-in-ones; I’ve got one-size; I’ve got contoured. And covers? Not only did I pull out the newborn diaperraps (with the adorable little cut-out for the umbilical stump) but now I have wool and hemp and polarfleece.

I haven’t even started sorting the bigger baby diapers but I’ve got around 5 dozen small size diapers. During Noah’s first six months we had a diaper service (ahh! the diaper service! a moment of silence for such luxury please!) so I’ve never had to deal with the mass of laundry generated by a newborn’s tushie but we had, I think, 9 or 10 dozen on order and that lasted us ’til the weekly pick-up so I figure this will be enough if I’m willing to wash as needed.

I know that to many of you this is one of my more boring entries but the other cloth diaper devotees understand my joy.

I’m there. I totally want to buy a ton of new all-in-ones to round out cole’s (hopefully) final spurt of diaperness, but I just can’t spare the dough.

This only serves to remind me that in a mere few weeks, I could be busying myself with thoughts of cloth diapers. To make? Buy? Or Lease? lol

I’m so happy for you, Dawn! (((xoxoxo)))

It sounds like a lot of fun! I’m really happy for you and your family :) !

  4. Ah, to cloth diaper a newborn again. :-) I didn’t have enough. Only about 2 dozen and I was in serious shock! I was washing ever other day, and it was exhausting. Good idea to have more for a newborn. I have about 2 dozen for my 13month old and only wash once sometimes twice a week. I swear he pees so much less than he did as a newborn. I’m so excited for you!

Please, as much cd talk as possible! We’re planning on it this time around, and I don’t have a clue.

And again, I’m so happy for you. *big grin*

It’s not a boring entry to me. It’s been 20 years since I was around a newborn who I had any part in caring for (my little brother, 13 years younger), so the ways of babies are fascinating to me. :)

Very interesting. I am strongly considering using cloth diapers. I will probably bug you about it when I get closer to delivery.
