Coming along

My second rough-draft of my sample chapter is done. It’s about 14 pages long if I actually had it typed double-spaced and all that. (I don’t. I write everything in verdana, 10 point, single-spaced and then switch it before I send it off.) I am now at the point where I’ve lost all perspective and need to invite (horrors!) people to read it. If you’d like to read it and offer up some criticism, write me and let me know. But I warn you, my first reaction to criticism is to huff myself into a corner and pout. I’ll pretend to be a grown-up and write you and say, “Wow, thanks so much for your insight!” but for the first 24-hours after getting your constructive email, I will be secretly bitter.

I know. I’m an absolute twit.

I would actually appreciate help making it a better piece and just because I act like a spoiled toddler at first doesn’t mean that I don’t come to my senses eventually. Even if you hate it, I promise to still like you. Really. Cross my heart, hope to die.

  1. I’d be happy to read it and mark it up (gently)! :)

  2. Would a red pen be out of the question then?!! Just kidding!!!

  3. I’m willing…I even have professional editing experience. :)
Also, have you seen the book “Thinking Like Your Editor”, by Rabiner & Fortunato? It’s harsh, but really helpful information about how to write book proposals that will not go into the slush pile.

  4. I would be willing to read it. However, in all honesty… all I will be able to tell you is what I like and what I’d change. Because I am not an editor…. purely a lover of literature.
