Noah clothing update
Apr 15, 2003 Parenting
We went to Target (Tarzhay) tonight for Noah to examine the clothing. I was patient as hell, thank goodness, having been inspired by rereading the post I wrote below and being thoroughly chagrined by my behavior. First we looked at shirts and Noah picked out a garish Hulk number and an equally fantastic Spiderman tee. Then he was delighted to find a bunch of flamboyant polyester superhero pajamas. He’s been wanting those ever since his best friend showed up with a pair.
His best friend (A.) is so cute. He came to me on the last playdate with this very concerned look on his face because Noah didn’t have any jammies like his. A. was wearing them as his costume while they played and I guess Noah told him that he would really like a pair, too. A. took it upon himself to let me know that they sell them “At that big mall that’s over there really far away and it’s by the place where they sell shoes. And next to the shoes are the boy’s clothes and they have them there and they have Spiderman and Superman and Batman.”
Anyway, I break out in mental hives at malls so it was nice to find the jammies at Target even though I would rather Noah never had close, personal contact with polyester. But remember, I’d sworn off on hounding him so I steeled myself and added a couple of sets for him to try on. Then I was able to steer him to the shorts and he picked out 3 pairs to try.
In the dressing room, Noah was thrilled to discover that both the Batman and the Spiderman pajamas fit and decided to go with the Spiderman. (They have built-in webs under the arms — nifty!) He also chose the Hulk t-shirt with the mind-blowing graphics. Finally he deigned to choose two pairs of shorts. And he’s even agreed to wear them tomorrow because he doesn’t feel like helping me do laundry tonight to get his pants clean! Hooray!
Let this be a lesson to me; patient understanding wins out over brute nagging every time!
