Dreaming

I’ve mentioned it before but here I go again. I’m a lucid dreamer. That means that I usually know that I’m dreaming and can manipulate my dreams. It’s very useful. The other day I had a dream that I was arguing with someone with whom I would really like to have an argument in real life. For a variety of reasons, this isn’t going to happen. Anyway, in this dream we were arguing and if I didn’t like what I had just said, I would hit a mental rewind then pause. I would contemplate what I would rather say and then hit play and say it.
It was extremely sastisfying.
I’ve always had very intense dreams and this inspired a lot of my creative writing. Dreaming is one of my favorite things to do.

My sister in law has always been able to do this. I’m so jealous…I hardly ever (unless I’m taking certain medication…clomid for one) remember mine.

LOL - You must be my liberal twin
We have quite a few things in common - believe it or not
I too am a lucid dreamer - i hate the chore of sleeping sometimes (so much to do ya know…) BUT i love love dreaming. Mine too are SO fantastic, and somehow I can bring the buzzing alarm into the dream, and not ever get up for the real alarm (etc.) I would rather have my dreams than go to a movie - I just never know what the plot/story - characters will be and bring into my dream world!
HOW though do you bring it to your writing? I would love to be able to remember with enough PURE clarity to do that!

That is a truly envious ability, Dawn! And how I wish I had a rewind button
Have you seen “Waking Life” by Richard Linklater?
You might really enjoy it–without going into too much detail, it explores the ‘otherworldly’ aspect of dreaming. I personally found it to be most inspiring and visually beautiful.
The movie has a website, if you’re curious:
