This is going to be a very uninteresting post, I’m afraid.
I’m not much for New Year; I think it’s a completely over-rated holiday. However we had a great New Year’s Eve last night.
Noah is still battling his cold and he started complaining of an earache. I crossed my fingers and hoped it wasn’t going to be a real earache (he hasn’t had one since he was about two) and told him that if he wanted a hot water bottle or anything to let me know. He ran screaming from the room, “Leave me alone! Stop talking about it!”
Noah gets very worried when he’s sick and he resists absolutely any offers of comfort. He also gets upset if I ask how he’s doing, which is a little frustrating considering that I’m his mother and I can’t help checking in with him now and then. Sheesh, if this is how he is at nearly 6, I’m sure I’ll never hear from him when he’s 13.
Anyway, by the time my mom get here he appeared to be feeling better. She brought over some food and so we all ate and then went downstairs so Noah could show her his new Playmobil toys. Then we played several rousing games of Trouble, Uno and Yahtzee. I somehow managed to win every game and cursed the fact that I wasn’t in Reno or Vegas where my luck would do some good.
My mom left at about 11:30pm and we watched the ball drop because Brett feels such viewing is important. Noah fell asleep on my lap and then we all headed upstairs. It was another restless night because Noah started coughing hard in the wee small hours of the morning. I just happened to have some robitussin (it’s a fertility trick — it thins your cervical fluid), which was very fortunate indeed because we don’t have any medicine around here other than adult ibuprofen. It worked right quick.
We’re going to lay low today and are going to have to miss my friend’s open house. I think Noah might still be contagious what with this cough and all and I want him to heal up in time to visit with his friend tomorrow.
I told you this would be a boring domestic post!
