Six years ago today…

…I was in labor. It was a pretty long labor. It began sometime on the 26th and Noah wasn’t born until the 28th.

We had his birthday party today and because I said I would when she showed up, I must mention that my friend L came at 11am and the party wasn’t until 2pm. (She got her times mixed up.) She was mortified but looked out at the blowing snow and said, “Well, you’re just going to have to put up with me because I’m not going back out in this!” It was pretty funny.

Of course as my labor day anniversary slowly turns into my more labor day anniversary, which will eventually turn into his actual birth day, I am getting nostalgic for wee little Noah. He hasn’t changed that much — the same tilted blue eyes, the same rosy cheeks, the same pointed little chin — but he’s grown longer and leaner and more into his boyishness. There’s something about watching him jumping around on the furniture in his black jeans (size 7 slim although he’s really a 6) that catches my heart; he’s growing so quickly and he’s growing so bold. I’m incredibly grateful to know him and to have the terrific privilege of being his mother.
