Jesus, Jews and Brotherly Love

Dru linked to this post that came from dark angel:

“There are some other historical tidbits about J.C. that casual Christians don’t know. First off, he was a revolutionary Nazarene (mistranslated as “Jesus of Nazareth” he was not from Nazareth - he was from Bethlehem.) which was a subsect of the revolutionary and mystical Essenes. This is why the Jews said “He’s not our messiah!” He actually was, but because of his leftist political leanings, they distanced themselves from his teachings. To have this miraculous human show up and start preaching brotherly love and giving up personal property was threatening to every group interested in ruling the status quo.”

Is this true? Did the Jews reject Jesus because he was too revolutionary for them? Nope. This is why the Jews rejected Jesus as their messiah:

1) Jesus did not fulfill the messianic prophecies.
2) Jesus did not embody the personal qualifications of the Messiah.
3) Biblical verses “referring” to Jesus are mistranslations.
4) Jewish belief is based on national revelation.

The story of my (blogging) life

If LotR had been written by Hemingway

from the Straight Dope Message Board

It was very late and everyone had left the hall except an old man who sat in the shadows the leaves of the old Mallorn made against the moonlight. The two elves inside the hall knew that the old man was a little drunk, and while he usually was quiet and kept to himself they knew that if he became too drunk he would start setting things on fire, so they kept watch on him.

“He’s drunk,” one elf said.

“What do you care?”

“He’s muttering about the secret fire.”

“Leave him alone. He used to carry a ring.”

“He’ll stay all night. He should never have been rebodied.”

The old man rapped on the table with his goblet. The younger elf went over to him.

“What do you want?”

The old man looked at him. “Another miruvor.”

“You’ll be drunk,” the elf said. The old man looked at him. The elf went away.

“Look at his bushy eyebrows,” he said to his colleague. “There is nothing as nasty as an old Man. He’ll stay all night and I’ll never get any sleep.”

The elf took the bottle of miruvor from the counter inside the hall and marched to the old man’s table. He poured the goblet full.

“You should never have been rebodied,” he said to the old man.

There’s more. There’s Milton and Seuss and Ray Bradbury. Funny stuff.

Strength is a beautiful thing

FromBabyBaby:

Every morning between 7 and 9 am, while the world is waking, stretching, driving to work and drinking coffee, cars pull into a side street in East Melbourne and park under the plane trees. One by one their drivers - young, female, childless - swing their legs out of the drivers’ seat, trot to the ticket machine, drop coins in the slot, then march across the ugly parking lot of the Freemason’s Hospital, entering through a door marked "Maternity", in search of a dream. In the dream, they’re just like other women. They’re normal. They have sleepless nights, cracked nipples, shirts covered in baby vomit. They go through labour. None of these things are considered upsides of motherhood, but all these women yearn for it. I know, because I’m one of them.

The Queen of Ambivalence

I’m feeling so freaked by all of the adoption issues that I said to Brett, “Maybe we shouldn’t do it; money is too tight.” Brett said that maybe we should take it one day at a time. So apparently we’ve switched places for the time being.

I’ve been worrying about a lot of different things including my writing jobs and why I don’t have more writing jobs and why I’m not writing more of what I like to write and why I haven’t gotten ahead on my columns and is our modem really going to die. And what about homeschooling? Am I ever truly going to have my shit together? I need more projects and while I’m at it, I should clean the house better and keep up with it more and clean out the closets for crying out loud and get those damn photos organized and I’m drinking way too much coffee. And while I’m at it, when am I going to get back into my exercise routine? And could I please put down the freaking chocolates and start eating some more fruits and vegetables for crying out loud?
